2/15/15 – Every year a cadre of designers make their debut under the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York tents with hopes of becoming the next “it” designer. Ran Fan is no exception. Except maybe she is. Ran Fan’s hopes may actually be realized if the buzz following her show is any indication. And as the fourth winner of Mercedes-Benz China Designer Award she has already proven she has what it takes to win fashion gold.
For those who missed RanFan’s Chiang Mai market inspired F/W 2015 show or are in the business of trendspotting, fashion forecasting or trend-setting, let’s review the top 10 reasons RanFan is a contender for New York Fashion Week’s fan favorite award.
Exclusively Natural Fabrics
Exclusively Natural Fabrics – RanFan fastidiously fashioned ALL of the pieces of her collection from high quality natural fabrics. Why does this matter? Well consider this; synthetic fabrics like polyester are used to make conveyor belts, safety belts, cushioning and insulating material. Scintillatingly sophisticated, right? Not! That’s why fashionphiles were oohing and aahing as her clothing flowed down the runway. The look and feel of high quality silk, extravagant wool and butter soft lambskin tends to induce a euphoric state state that allows one to temporarily ignore their budget restraints and buy beautiful.
Universally Flattering Features
Universally flattering Features – If you are built like a runway model then take a look at the pics from RanFan’s runway show and you’ll know exactly how you’ll look in her clothes. Gorgeous. HOWEVER, if you if you fall in the category of petite, regular or plus size then…take a look at the runway pics and notice the deliberately loose fits and drop waists that will flatter you as well. Who knows? You may even look better than the oft emaciated models!
Clothing the Generational Gap
Clothing the Generational Gap – So you are a sophisticated woman who needs to look chic and professional at the same time. AND you have daughter who cant decide if she is a tomboy or a girly girl. AND you have a sister who loves to see herself sparkle as she checks her sexy and bling out in every reflective surface she passes. AND you have a mother who will accept nothing less than classic, hollywood glamour replete with full length fur strollers. Well RanFan’s F/W 2015 collection has something to make the gals of every generation in your family happy. As an added bonus you can all wear her clothing for a cohesive family photo.
Sexy Sweater-dress – Wait! Before you roll your eyes and point out that “Sexy Sweater-dress” is an oxymoron that your grandmother unsuccessfully tried to sell you years ago when presenting her home made, oversized reindeer sweater as a Christmas gift, pause. Then take a gander at RanFan’s red hot, knee length number, with peekaboo knit action that set the runway on fire. Yep. As previously stated, Sexy sweater-dress! Now you’ll know exactly what to wear to elicit some yuletide cheer from the co-worker you’re crushing on at the next holiday party.
Creamsicle Colorway – “I don’t like Creamsicles”…said no one ever! Well guess what? RanFan’s current collection taps into our undeniable attraction to the tasty treat and has ladies salivating over her skirts, jackets and tops rendered in the iconic creamy cream, orangey orange and cherry cherry. One wonders if RanFan is practicing fashion psychology with this Pavlovian-esque pairing. If so, it is working…
Luxuriously Lazy – You probably don’t want to admit it but you have channeled your inner trench coat wearing flasher more than a few times this year. Of course, you weren’t trying to be fresh. You were just too lazy to get fully dressed to run out to grab milk from the store. So here’s the deal. It’s OK to be lazy…as long as you do it luxuriously. RanFan wants to help by offering you plethora of statement outerwear options that are so striking that no one will ever suspect that you are wearing your ratty college tee and shorts underneath. Great for the fall and winter but what will you do in the summer? Wear one of RanFan’s feather light laser cut silk jackets that will cover up your night gown without raising your temperature.
Trans-seasonal Collection – You know those designers who rigidly stick to dated fashion schedules, only showing spring/summer clothes during one fashion week and fall/winter at another? Well RanFan isn’t one of them! See, she knows what Cyndi Lauper knew when she sang “Girls just want to have fun!” In the sun, in the shade, in the alps, on the range, etc. Wherever and whenever the modern woman wants to party she will go, armed with her passport and paycheck. RanFan understands that one day her client may be flying into frigid Norway for work then to temperate Australia for vacation and back home to the sunny Sao Paulo to rest…all within 2 weeks. RanFan doesn’t make the ladies wait. She gives you looks for every season all in one collection. The RanFan woman is buying her fur, chiffon, wool and silk separates and packing now!
Cool Accessories – Remember when you were young and you went through your origami phase? How about when you tried to divine whether you might be the object of affection of the school heartthrob by using an intricately folded piece of paper that you opened and closed to the beat of your friends horribly sung “does he really love me” song. OK, you can deny you played the second game but there is no reason to distance yourself from your origami origins. In fact, you can embrace them with the satisfaction of knowing you were decades ahead of the fashion curve when you rock RanFan’s funky, folded clutches that will carry a lot more than a cellphone and tube of lip gloss. Check inside, as each bag comes with a healthy shot of chic inside.
First Row Rewards
First Row Rewards – Yes, that’s right. Ran Fan invoked the time honored tradition of greeting every front row guest with a gift from her collection. A a stuffed mink heart to be exact. A member of her team said it was a physical metaphor of her love for her fans. Which of course makes them love her even more…and buy pieces from her collection to match! Plus, attendees got to actually feel RanFan’s haute tailoring and fabric instead of just wondering about it from their seats. Win Win! Now if more designers followed suit, New York Fashion Week attendees would be a lot better dressed – wearing SWAG from all the designers’ shows they frequented.
The “RanFan” Name
The “RanFan” Name – Brands with cool names tend to make people feel cool when they wear them. RanFan IS a cool name, and not just because it rhymes. Ran Fan is actually a Japanese abbreviation for lingerie and undergarments which arms her clients with an insiders double entendre cool when someone asks them “what you are wearing?” and they reply “RanFan.” Then there’s the Dragon Ball Z reference. You know, the the only female character in the 21st World Championship who almost defeats Nam by manipulating her wardrobe. No? Well, her name was Ran Fan and you knowing that just made you cooler to legions of Dragon Ball Z fans around the world.
