Rev. Terry Lee of By-Ways and Hedges Youth For Christ Ministry, Inc. in Brooklyn, New York, believes change should start at home so in 1998, he was led to launch the White House Prayer. Moved to petition God in prayer about the country’s executive leadership and its staff, Rev. Lee and other ministerial leaders have met on the grounds of the White House year after year since that time. This year’s White House Prayer will take place at The White House at The Ellipse – Northwest Quadrant, on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The day’s events include fun, singing and worship featuring varied clergy members, Gospel artists and choirs.
Rev. Lee is seeking local pastors and preachers, Gospel artists, singers and dancers to participate in the event. The National Music Director of the White House Prayer is Professor Martin Christie who has worked with top artists in Gospel including Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Pastor John P. Kee, Yolanda Adams and the late Rev. Timothy Wright. Singers and dancers who desire to take part in the White House Prayer should log on to www.whitehouseprayer.com.
The primary goal of the event is to seek God‘s wisdom on behalf of The President and his family, our military, elected officials and law enforcement. Prayers will also be sent up for issues such as immigration, gun control, the world’s economy and peace across the globe. An inter-faith gathering, pastors and preachers will provide inspired messages and prayers and the National Mass Choir and Gospel artists will be providing music for the White House Prayer event.
Hosted by The By-Ways and Hedges Youth for Christ Ministries, the organization was founded in 1989 in New York City and is a spiritual institution that has provided spiritual support and educational resources for youth and the community at large. In keeping with the mission to evangelize and transform the lives of all mankind, the ministry embarked upon praying for the United States of America in Washington D.C.. Since 1998, they have grown through three administrations with the help of church leaders and parishioners from several states. Throughout these years, the White House Prayer has prayed for the following administrations: President Bill Clinton, President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama.
For the past 17 years, God has granted the White House Prayer event favor in mobilizing spiritual leaders to congregate on the White House lawn, standing in the gap for our Nation and its National Leaders. Rev. Lee says, “Our prayer is that you will respond to the heartbeat of God and join us as we prepare for this annual event. This year’s event is five days prior to the National Day of Prayer with its mission to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture. We are following in that glorious call to prayer by inviting everyone to assemble on the White House Ellipse lawn in our Nation’s Capital.”
