Hey, jealousy! When the new season of “19 Kids and Counting” debuted on Wednesday night, viewers got to play catch up by going back to last summer when Jill Duggar announced her pregnancy and her younger sis, Jessa, started planning her wedding to Ben Seewald. On Feb. 17, E! News posted a clip from the premiere episode, which had Jessa and Ben checking out their new home, a family property that’s a fraction of the size of the place her parents offered up to Jill and her husband, Derick Dillard.
After patriarch Jim Bob Duggar explained that he and his wife decided to give each of their children a cheap place to rent when they first get married, Jessa and Ben checked out their promised pad, which turned out to be full of mold. The property, owned by Grandma Duggar, is actually the former home of eldest Duggar son Josh and his wife Anna, who lived there for five years and gave birth to two of their children there.
But Jessa took a moment to explain why she was given the small house in need of repair while Jill was given a much more spacious house on the other side of town. “The reason why Jill got the big house was because it’s really close to Derick’s work and so it’s kind of the opposite of town. We don’t mind though, really,” Jessa explained. “That’s a lot of work to keep up with. They have three floors. It’s got to be a lot of work.”
The difference in the sizes of the two homes is staggering. According to Radar Online, Jill and Derick’s home is a luxurious $1.5 million mansion, while Jessa and Ben’s pad is a compact tract home located near a freeway on-ramp.
The episode also featured Jill announcing her pregnancy. But her sister’s then- fiance had a funny reaction. “They beat us again,” Ben Seewald said after Jill and Derick announced their happy news. While Ben and Jessa have yet to announce a pregnancy of their own (they tied the knot in November), Jill Duggar is due with her baby boy next month.
Still, perhaps Jessa and Ben won’t be too far behind in that department. The newlyweds have been very vocal about their plans to adopt, and it sounds like it could be sooner than later. In an interview with People, the couple revealed that they are already exploring the adoption process. “We hope to adopt a lot of kids,” Jessa, 22, told the magazine. “If God blesses us with biological kids of our own, it’s not going to quench our desire to adopt.”
Sure, but won’t they need a bigger house? You can catch the new season of “19 Kids and Counting” on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on TLC.
