I have been an avid reader for almost five decades now. In that time I have read countless books some of them good, some of them bad. Over the years I’ve also managed to come across quite a few book series which I couldn’t put down like the classic John D. McDonald detective novels and the Dresden File series.
There are also a number of book series intended for younger audiences which also can be thoroughly enjoyed by older adults. Here are five of them.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is technically a juvenile fiction series, but still an enjoyable read for adults. The books chronicle the adventures of the Percy Jackson who is a half blood, his mother is human and his father is Poseidon, and his friends who are also half bloods of other Greek Gods. In the books the half bloods must stop the coming end of the world.
The Last Apprentice series by Joseph Delaney is pseudo Romeo and Juliet story set in a fantasy world. In this series a witch named Alice and a Guardian’s apprentice named Tom along with Master Gregory seek to rid the world of the the coming evil. The series is filled with adventure, budding romance between two young people who should not be together and much more. This is a wonderful fantasy series.
What can be said about the Harry Potter series. The books took about a young wizard who is coming of age took the world by storm. The books became movies. The movies, well you know the rest. There is still hope for more books to come.
The Hunger Games, while not one of my favorite series is still worth reading. One word of warning the plot line of the books may be offensive to some. The books are about young people who are forced to hunt each other to the death until there is only one left. The first book ‘The Hunger Games’ is the best book of the series. ‘Catching Fire’ is a good read but I was a little disappointed with the final book in the series, ‘Mocking Jay’.
The Divergent Series is another in the growing young adult novel series which are set in an apocalyptic world. Don’t let that deter you. Then plot line of the books detail the budding love of the two leading characters,Tris and Four as they seek to live in a world gone haywire. I enjoyed the first two books in the series Divergent and Insurgent The last book Allegiant, was a little anti climatic. Still this series is a good read.
These are only a few of the young adult novels which are good reads for older adults so get out there and read.
