HWAC, otherwise known as Helen Woodward Animal Center is preparing for its 6th Annual Puppy Love 5K fundraiser which will again be presented by Blue Buffalo, a very important partner of HWAC. The great news is that they have selected a beautiful new location at Lake Poway.
The theme this year is based on St. Patrick’s Day. Hopefully it will bring luck to some orphan pets, pup-rechauns shall we say, so that they find their forever homes.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 15th. Pre-events begin promptly at 7:00 a.m. as the family-friendly, dog-focused race prepares to get underway at 8:00 a.m.
The Center’s adoptables hope to harness some St. Patty’s Day luck at Lake Poway, a striking background for this very magical event. In fact, several golden-hearted supporters have already begun forming their teams in attempts to raise more life-saving “green” than ever before on behalf of HWAC’s orphan pets.
Since the event was highly anticipated, the 2005 5K has already a record number of participants signing up; perhaps the new course setting is the reason why! Even though the change of location will not be a cat walk since runners will have to charge hills and descend into canyons, they will be able to eagerly see what the next switchback will have to offer those steady competitors.
HWAC does not want anyone not to feel welcome at this event, so as usual there will also be an easier pace alternative – an untimed walk (to begin at 8:20 a.m.) that will offer participants a chance to take in the stunning views on the same 5K lake trail loop with options to shorten the course or complete the whole 5K! The best thing is that dogs will be welcome to join their pet parents on either course. All funds raised will go towards the pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
The “After Paw-ty” will be fabulous as well! It is scheduled to take place in the Wagging Wellness Village and will feature St. Patrick’s Day-themed fun. Participants and their families can gather to celebrate the luck of having found furry friends of their own with music, a human-canine costume contest, dog agility course, kid’s activities (face painting and take-home crafts), plus food and dozens of interactive health and pet related booths to take advantage of.
“We are incredibly excited about our new location and grateful to the City of Poway which has generously welcomed us,” stated Special Events Manager Regina Barrella. “We have wonderful supporters whose hearts are really focused on the orphan pets and they’d probably run around a parking lot if it meant saving lives. It’s nice to thank them with such a beautiful course.”
Race entry for the 6th Annual Puppy Love 5K is $35 for adult runners and walkers and $15 for junior runners and walkers with great team discounts available. Those with team spirit can gather a team of six or more and all members can use the TEAM DISCOUNT CODE “team6” to get $10 off for adults and $5 off for kids!
