Being left for dead inside cold storage where corpses are stored is probably one of the worst nightmares anyone could conjure up, but this really happened. An elderly woman was declared dead by a doctor and authorities want to know how this could have possibly happened.
Someone made a wrong call, which was very apparent when a 91-year-old woman woke up in a funeral home. Janina Kolkiewicz woke up to the surroundings of the cold storage unit giving the morgue staff a shock they will never forget as the body bag started to move.
According to CNN News on Nov. 14, the elderly Polish woman stopped breathing and the family called the doctor. His examination found no pulse, no heart sounds and her pupils showed no reflexes, so for all intents and purposes, the woman was dead.
According to the Huffington Post, when the woman woke up inside the body bag she gave the morgue staff the scare of their lives. Dr. Wieslawa Czyz claims, “I was sure she was dead.
Janina has returned home and will be cared for by her niece. The first thing they did for the elderly woman was warm her up with soup and pancakes. While this incident is enough to unnerve anyone, Janine suffers from late-stage dementia, so she has no idea what had just happened to her.
Waking up in a body bag in the morgue is just one level away from the nightmare of waking up inside a coffin buried in the ground, which is a nightmare shared by many. From the sounds of what reports are saying today, this woman was doing nothing more than napping when she was mistaken for dead.
Once the doctor signed the death certificate, the family planned the woman’s services and the funeral home came to pick up the elderly woman’s body. It was 11 hours later that Janina woke up and she was feeling fine.
KCCI News reports that an investigation is underway as the authorities need to determine if the doctor exposed Janina to “imminent danger or loss of life” by having her moved to a funeral home and put in cold storage under the incorrect diagnosis of death.
