Scheduled to premiere Easter Sunday (April 5) on NBC, the 12-hour miniseries A.D. THE BIBLE CONTINUES will debut a trailer with exclusive content during Super Bowl XLIX on
Sunday, February 1.
Over 110 million people will see this trailer – an unprecedented faith-based event airing during television’s highest rated annual broadcast.
Creators Mark Burnett and Roma Downey continue the work they began in History Channel’s, THE BIBLE., A.D. THE SERIES tells its story through the eyes of the apostles, Pontius Pilate, Caiaphas the High Priest, the Jewish zealots, and the Herod family. With the Book of Acts and Paul’s epistles as its foundation, A.D. THE SERIES opens days after Jesus’ betrayal and death. Peter, played by Adam Levy, and the disciples are hunted by Temple authorities led by Richard Coyle’s Caiaphas and Roman soldiers under orders from Governor Pontius Pilate (played by Vincent Regan).
For the tiny band of Christ-followers, every day is a fight for survival, as they seek to fulfill Jesus’ commission to spread God’s word to the known world. A.D. THE SERIES seeks to unfold the complicated birth of the early Church, with its enormous faith, persecution, political intrigue, and brutal Roman oppression. The entire world was transformed by this band of “little Jesuses”, and they forever changed the course of human history.
A.D.THE SERIES marks NBC’s first foray into long-form programming in decades. Faith-based programming is attracting more and more viewers, and the success of THE BIBLE showed that the audience is out there. Since its release on DVD and Blu-ray in April 2014, THE BIBLE has become the top-selling miniseries of all time in its first week of release, shipping 525,000 units. NBC is looking to capitalize on this market share.
Burnett and Downey are targeting their marketing to churches and faith-based communities. Their site “Share AD The Series” is a one-stop resource center about the miniseries, and offers bible-based information and tools to build excitement and knowledge for the premiere on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015. Roma Downey said in an introductory video on the site, “Our goal is to give you everything you need to help spread God’s word with all those around you.”
