The title of Lorenzo Lamas’ autobiography ‘Renegade at Heart’ says it all for the 57-year-old, who’s best known for his roles as bad-boy Lance Cumson on the 1980s nighttime soap Falcon Crest and as fugitive cop turned bounty hunter Reno Raines/Vince Black on the 1990s syndicated action series entitled Renegade.
To illustrate, Lorenzo has been married and divorced four times, which includes his ‘Renegade’ co-star Kathleen Kinmont, who played his love interest.
Renegade, which aired from 1992 to 1997, starred Lorenzo as Reno Raines, an undercover cop who was framed and wrongly convicted for the murder of a police officer he was investigating for corruption. He teams up with Bobby Sixkiller (Branscombe Richmond) and his sister Cheyenne Phillips (Kinmont) to clear his name, as Reno Raines hits the road on his motorcycle and becomes Vince Black, ‘an outlaw hunting outlaws, a bounty hunter … a RENEGADE’.
Like David Hasselhoff as NBC’s Knight Rider, Renegade is a modern version of ‘The Lone Ranger’ — meets The Fugitive –, with Lorenzo’s character riding from town to town fighting for justice on behalf of the underdog while trying to stay one step ahead of the law, as well as seeking evidence that will exonerate him.
The series was created by the late Stephen J. Cannell, who also created NBC’s The A-Team, which is ‘The Lone Ranger’ meets The Magnificent Seven meets The Fugitive meets The Dirty Dozen: soldiers-of-fortune fighting for justice on behalf of the helpless and oppressed while being chased by the military as escaped prisoners. Cannell had a recurring role on ‘Renegade’ as Donald ‘Dutch’ Dixon, the lawman not only pursuing Raines/Black, but also the one that framed him for the murder Raines/Black is wanted for.
Today, Lorenzo is married to his fifth wife, 28-year-old Shawna Craig, who is a surrogate for his daughter — and Shawna’s stepdaughter — Shayne, who is a year younger than her stepmother. This will be the second child for Shayne and husband Nik Richie; the couple, who married in 2010, are parents of their three-year-old daughter Press.
