Actors’ Summit (Akron’s professional theater) has announced the casting for their upcoming production of Hound of the Baskervilles. The show will have a preview performance on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 (no performance is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, November 27) with the official opening to be Friday, November 28 of which a dessert reception will follow the production.. The show will close on December 21, 2015. Times are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. All performances will be held at Greystone Hall located at 103 S High Street in downtown Akron. The theater is located on the sixth floor. The show is appropriate for all ages.
Hound of the Baskervilles is a comic adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mystery of the same name but adapted for the stage. Three actors play the parts of Sherlock, Dr. Watson and Sir Henry Baskerville.
Sir Henry is the last of the Baskervilles who’s second to last relative died under mysterious conditions. Many in the nearby town believe it to be the work of a giant hound who can not only scare people to death but attack them as well.
Jim Fippin (Sir Henry ++) has been on stage at Actors’ Summit, Porthouse, Weathervane, Coach House, The Players Guild, Magical Theatre Company and with the Ohio Shakespeare Festival. He has appeared in Bus Stop, Uncle Vanya, Black Coffee, August: Osage County, Richard III, Lettice and Lovage, The Rainmaker, Custer, The Real Thing, The Odd Couple, The Lion in Winter, Once Upon a Mattress, Hamlet, Jesus Christ Superstar, Noises Off, Twelfth Night, Another Antigone, Romeo and Juliet, As You Like It, Getting Out and King Lear. Jim has directed productions of Italian American Reconciliation, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Proof, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Private Lives, Art, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Betrayal, and Chapter Two. He earned his BFA in Theatre from Otterbein College.
Stuart Hoffman (Holmes, Barrymore, etc.) is a Cleveland-based actor and playwright. Having lately closed a much-lauded production of The Pillowman at convergence-continuum, his other recent shows includeFrankenstein (Ensemble), Arcadia (Mamai), The Bald Soprano(Ohio City Theater Project) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Akron Symphony Orchestra). As a playwright, his written work has been seen, in various stages of development, at Ensemble Theatre, Cleveland Public Theatre, Dobama Theatre and Lorain County Community College. Stuart is a member of Dobama Theatre’s Playwrights GYM, a six-year judge of their Marilyn Bianchi Kids’Playwriting Festival and is a member of the FRIENDS of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights public libraries, committed to the appreciation, improvement and use of our public libraries.
Frank Jackman (Dr. Watson) is proud to have been part of the Actors’Summit family since their very first year when he played Jimmy in The Gingerbread Lady. Since then, he has performed in nearly 30 productions here including: Charlie Brown in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Gunner in Don’t Hug Me, Lloyd in Guys on Ice, Bassinet in Ladies Man, The Trucker in Route 66, and Donny in the world premiere of Eric Coble’s A Girl’s Guide to Coffee. You may have seen Frank’s long, white beard when he played Lazar Wolf in Fiddler on the Roof at Porthouse Theatre. He’s been in commercials, print ads, and voiceovers for Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sherwin Williams, American Greetings, Time Warner, and many other companies.
Tickets for Hound of the Baskervilles are on sale now through the box office at 330-374-7568 and online at www.actorssummit.org. Preview tickets (November 26) are $20. Tickets for all other performances: $33 for adults, $28 for seniors over 65; and $10 for all full time students under 30.
The theater is located on the sixth floor of historic Greystone Hall in downtown Akron. The facility features barrier free access and free parking.
