There’s a new serial killer in town and her name is actress Marzy Hart. Well, Marzy isn’t actually a killer, but she plays one in the new web series “Slice.”
Marzy plays Lily Drover, a typical millennial city-dweller living a mundane life until she discovers her new obsession: murder.
This horror meets dark comedy original series from creator/director Daniel Ferry has earned ‘Official Selection’ nods at the Vancouver Web Fest on March 6th and HollyWeb Fest on March 26th. But, audiences don’t have to wait, the show is available to watch online right now on YouTube.
I recently caught up with Marzy Hart to find out more about her killer role in “Slice.”
Give us an overview of the new web series “Slice” and your role in it.
MARZY: Slice is about giving in to the part of yourself that isn’t afraid to hurt people’s feelings and constantly say the right thing. Lily goes from succumbing to peer pressure and insecurity to being exactly who and what she wants, even if that doesn’t mean being a good person.
Is there anything you had to do to get into the mindset for this character?
MARZY: Meditation and improvisation are super important to me when preparing for a role. One allows you to quiet your mind and hear your impulses more clearly while the other allows you to explore the character, finding similarities and differences myself and Lily. As we go through life we all have fantasies about doing bad things, exploding with emotion, but we don’t act on it because we’re rational people. It was really fun to let it out.
What appealed to you the most about playing this character?
MARZY: I love how Lily keeps finding a way to keep going even as she burns every bridge she has just because she can.
What do you hope audiences take away from the series?
MARZY: I want the audience to see that female leads can be just as interesting and complex as male leads.
This is a bit of a hybrid horror meets comedy meets drama, but if you had to pick one…which genre is your favorite?
MARZY: I love comedy rooted in reality. Obvious Child is a great example of that, totally relatable and hilarious. I also reaaallly love action adventure, sci-fi, and fantasy.
Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
MARZY: Daniel Ferry and I are really excited to have the opportunity to reach a bigger audience, and I love seeing peoples’ responses to Slice. Thanks so much for the opportunity, and we’re just getting started!
Thanks, Marzy – and keep on killing it!
