The heartfelt and eye-opening piece is reported to give fans a deep look at the well-known reality TV family, including some of the couple’s deepest feelings, scandals, and confessions. In an update on this story, Christian Today News reveals this Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, that Lisa has even opened up on having an affair and abortion when she was younger, difficult decisions that she regrets to this very day.
With such stories featured in the Alan and Lisa Robertson book, it is likely the couple will appear only more real and honest. Faith is what brought them together, and their words confirm that faith as what has managed to keep them as man and wife all of these years. While A&E viewers are surely aware of the positives to be found in the family, “A New Season: A Robertson Family Love Story of Brokenness and Redemption” will unveil what is not necessarily shown on the small screen. The struggles may not always be visible, but they are certainly present.
Accepting a past of drug use and overcoming sexual abuse is never easy, this new “Duck Dynasty” chapter attests. According to Yahoo! TV News, will delve into the Robertson couple’s ongoing and at times chaotic relationship in their marriage, including what scandals have rocked their sense of stability and trust in one another. The beginning of these challenging trials originates back to when Alan was a young man and Lisa was a young woman in high school. The two had dated habitually for a time before sharing their vows together, but even then, their lifestyles posed a threat to their love.
As written in the Robertson book, tough times and confessions will be explored, so readers had best be prepared. Lisa opens up about being molested for several years as a young girl, while husband Alan goes on to say he was reckless and foolhardy when he was young, getting involved in drugs and other illicit activities.
“It makes our story even more compelling to realize everything that affected us and our relationship really started way back, before Lisa and I ever met, when she was a girl and I was a boy,” Alan shared in a personal statement.
In spite of their rough-hewn past, the two still managed to make it together. They say it was through the love and support of Jesus, Alan and Lisa Robertson add in their book, that always managed to hold on when times were tough. “A New Season” also delves into a particular painful time in the “Duck Dynasty” couple’s past. One of these long-kept secrets was Lisa’s abortion when she was 17 years old, and later having an affair with another man that lasted for well over a year.
Yet not even this could put an end to their enduring love story. “The Women of Duck Commander,” a previously published text that also did very well for itself, touched upon these issues. However, Lisa says she explores these touchy topics, and her confessions about the harrowing scandal, more deeply in the new book. After learning of the affair, the “Duck Dynasty” wife said she was torn from both her husband and the rest of the family clan for a long time.
“We wanted to write our story, and [my past] has everything to do with our story,” she went on to share. “We just wanted to put it out there — the good, the bad, the ugly, but also what God has healed us from and brought us through.”
“It was really hard,” Alan admitted. “It was one of the most difficult things our family has ever gone through … But what I will say is that once I made the decision that I was in a place where I could forgive Lisa and I wanted our marriage to work, they got on board behind me … It took a little while for each of them in their individual way to work through their issues with Lisa, but they did. And now we’re very close and they’re very close to her.”
For interested readers, the Alan and Lisa Robertson book is already on shelves; “Duck Dynasty” fans may certainly want a copy. From drugs and drinking with Alan and other issues with Lisa, the couple admits they have made mistakes and gone through dark times and even more rocky patches. Yet the two are grandparents now and stand fully behind the Robertson Christian values and emphasis on faith and family above all else.
“I realize there are people out there who only see us through the lens of the show… but it really happened, it really was who I was,” Alan said. “And then I became something different. I want people to know that if you’re in some bad place, I’ve been there, and I know the way out … Forgiveness — not just when something bad happens, but also for smaller things,” he explained. “You have to be willing to offer forgiveness for things someone does to hurt you in a relationship.”
