Families of all ages and stages got into the holiday spirit with a fun and festive ride on the Santa Cruz Holiday Lights Train through the city of Santa Cruz this year.
The beautifully decked out vintage train picks up passengers at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and is overflowing with holiday cheer. Cheery elves greet passengers and help them board the train and select a car. There are indoor and outdoor cars available, both offering a cozy ride through town.
Once the conductor blows the whistle the fun escalates! A guitarist is in the party car leading a variety of fun Christmas Carols from the traditional Jingle Bells to the Hawaiian themed “Mele Kalikimaka”. Hot apple cider is served on the train keeping the revelers warm and happy as they wave at onlookers throughout the ride.
The community of Santa Cruz loves the train as much as the passengers on it. As the train rolls through intersections, people in their cars wave enthusiastically at the train-some even popping out their sunroofs for a better view. People in their homes are jumping around and waving from their windows and on their porches and the passengers on the train are waving back just as excitedly.
The ride is full of fun and surprises along the way. An artist is on hand to do face painting and holiday charicatures and the conductor will pop through the train with jingle bells every once in a while. Snow magically appears and is falling off the train as carolers are singing “White Christmas” to the delight of the children. Mr. and Mrs. Claus climb aboard en route and spend quality time with each child on the train, posing for pictures and passing out goodies.
Back at Santa’s Kingdom at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk the fun continues with holiday miniature golf, arcade games and laser tag to name a few. The Holiday Lights Train is a seasonal tradition and will be roaring into town again each December.
