Here in Fort mMyers, we are fortunate to have generous neighbors who give of their time and facilities to provide us and our families with fun, entertaining and educational activities throughout the year. Whether it is outdoor movies, parades and celebrations, nature walks or farmers’ markets, our local government, business and organizations continually step up and make our place in paradise all the more interesting and fun.
Indeed, February is and has been an exciting and busy month in Fort Myers. We have been treated to several weekly markets and an incomparable, top-quality, fortnight long celebration of our favorite son, Thomas Edison. We sat under the stars and enjoyed family movies. All for less than a gallon of gas and a tiny, truly optional donation. Thank you one and all.
So who is the Alliance for the Arts, and why single them out for special praise? They describe themselves as “the state designated arts agency for Lee County; a non-profit member supported organization with a passion to facilitate and nurture the creation, development, promotion, and education of arts and culture.” They support the work of local artists and musicians, and they take their part in the community very seriously.
This Saturday morning, February 28, 2015, the Alliance will be the host to three different community events; there is something for everyone. Descriptions provided by the Alliance.
Green Market – every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Join us on our 10-acre campus every Saturday to find an exclusive selection of locally grown, caught and cultivated foods and other products available to sample and purchase. Enjoy live entertainment by local musicians and fun activities for kids, gardening classes and live cooking by local chefs. The GreenMarket hosts neighbors and small growers who bring seasonal, very limited crops to market. Do you have fruit from a few backyard trees, a good tomato crop from the kitchen garden, or some berries gathered in an outing? If so, we’d like to help you bring it to the community. Barter is encouraged, trade your small crop for market items you may need!
Musical Discovery Series: Woodwinds, February 28 from 10:00 a.m. – to 11:00 a.m.
Gulf Coast Symphony continues its 2015 Musical Discovery Series at the Alliance for the Arts on Saturday, February 28 from 10-11:00AM with an exploration of Woodwinds. The Musical Discovery Series offers kids a chance to meet musicians and learn about their instruments in a fun, relaxed program. This is a ”don’t miss. The program length is perfect, and is obviously well thought out. The “musical Discovery Zone” means the kids get to handle the instruments.
