It is does not surprise me that churches of all faith tend to demonstrate the most amazing performances in their choirs and musicians. Maybe it is that inspired passion behind stained glass windows that brings out the incredible talent of choirs, soloists and of course, honored musicians. Maybe it is God who helps orchestrate the rewarding ability of his sons and daughters in the music and arts arena to bring out the brilliance of praise and his message.
Two especially talented individuals define that purpose. From the Chicago suburbs, Jim Molina and Maria Carini take the spotlight.
A graduate from Roosevelt University with degrees in Piano Pedagogy and Piano Performance followed by graduate studies with Pawl Chercinski, Jim Molina is a highly recognized musician that has performed throughout the United States and Canada.
Besides his excellence as a pianist, Jim has directed and performed in over 50 musicals and was founder/co-owner of the Oakbrook Academy of Music with a twenty year history that provided private drama and music education.
Currently, Jim is an accomplished full time private piano teacher instructing students early to advanced pianists while continuing to produce award winning students. Jim is also working with producer David Browning (Nashville) on a record featuring original compositions in the style of Contemporary Christian Rock music.
In addition to his teaching, Jim is Music Minister for the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Downers Grove. Originally, Rev. Bill Hoglund and Jim created a service that featured contemporary music played by a rock band; now known as the Guided Path. The music ministry has continued to evolve under the inspired leadership of Jim Molina and Pastor Scott Oberle.
Brilliant soprano, Maria Carini, received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from Carroll College and Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University. Ms. Carini’s has received numerous accolades as an operatic performer that includes the following roles: Giannetta from The Gondoliers, Zara from Utopia Limited, Mabel from Pirates of Penzance, Valencienne from The Merry Widow, Rosalinda from Die Fledermaus, Papagena from The Magic Flute, Annina from La Traviata, and Suor Genevieffa from Suor Angelica.
She has participated in the New York Vocal Institute; Seagle Music Colony in Schroon Lake, New York; the Altamura Music Festival in Round Top, New York (under the direction of Anton Coppola;) and the Italian Operatic Experience in Urbania, Italy. Ms. Carini has performed as a soloist in numerous works at First Congregational Church of Downers Grove, including Schubert’s Mass in G.
While continuing to pursue her passion for opera, Ms. Carini currently teaches Preschool-5th grade general music in Forest Park, private voice to all ages and serves as Assistant Music Director at the First Congregational United Church of Christ Downers Grove.
Not only do both perform at Sunday church services, but will be presenting the Art and Soul Concert featuring the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and more. Jim Molina and Maria Carini will be accompanied by Krissy Han, piano and Jason Deroche, Guitar
