AMTA FREE Easter Weekend Striking Seminar
My wife and I arrived shortly after the seminar began. Much to my surprise there was a crowded house at the Siam Star training facility. The atmosphere was standing room only. Approximately 70 – 80 people were gathered to train under the area’s top striking coaches. I was quickly greeted by Ajarn Carlos Moreno and cordially introduced to the All-Star panel of instructors. First I was introduced to Bruno “El Tanque/ The Tank” Mendes and Tomer Litvit. Bruno is a founding member of Soul Fighters and the head BJJ instructor at Siam Star. Tomer is the owner of Siam Star in Allen Texas and the host of the day’s event. Next I was introduced to Professor Bobby Pena head BJJ Instructor at Infinite Dynasty in Wylie Texas. I had the pleasure to meet Brandon Crick out of All Powers Fitness in Haltom City and Ajarn Vilai Thonginh from Punsopa Muay Thai in Rockwall Texas. This writer was also privilaged enough to be introduced to Sean Malone of Cage Authority a leading MMA Blog writer and photographer. Another Instructor who attended and taught was Durwyn Lamb of the Phalanx academy in Fort Worth. This writer had previously known Durwyn for some time. There were plenty of familiar faces from Beast Bash 2014 and even some of this writer’s previous training partners.
All of the instructors flowed smoothly together from period of instruction, to period of instruction. All of the curriculum flowed seemlessly. Ajarn Carlos did an excellent job of keeping everyone with in the time constraints and moving this event along a well organized timeline. Every technique was simple and effective and the instructors emphasized the fundamentals and simplicity. That is not to say that the curriculum was run of the mill or hum drum. each instructor added his own flare to the old basics. Trainees were able to quickly and effectively learn the methods and implent them in drill immediately.
It was great to see that so many instructors from various areas in the D/FW Metroplex were able to come together for a free event that would promote the betterment of both Muay Thai and the sport of MMA. For those who aren’t familiar with the martial arts business or the business of combat sports; it is one of the shadiest most seedy businesses on the planet. This is a field were intense rivalries between gyms and schools are often developed and instructors often play cut throat. Ajarn Carlos had previously stated that he and his group wanted to change the MMA scene in the D/FW are and this event seemed to prove that they just might be able to do it. For this writer the event was a special thing because there was so much talent in one place for such a great cause. There was literally material for months. This special event is even more rare because I was able to work in conjunction with Sean Malone of Cage Authority who provided photos of this event for this very article.
This was a great event for Easter weekend. As this writer sat down to draft the article and put together an exciting training montage for the event that included a special instructor interview and new technique from Ajarn Carlos, one’s PC crashed. The article and all video material crashed along with the PC. However this is Easter and that wouldn’t stop this great story from getting out. So for those who always enjoy the videos that go along with the photos and main article on the Fort Worth Martial Arts Examiner Expose’s; fear not the information is in the process of being recovered and with be made available at a later date. Until then I hope everyone had a safe and happy Easter holiday being sure to remember the pupose of the occasion and that everyone enjoys the article and the great photos made possible by Cage Authority’s Sean Malone. This writer can’t wait to see what The American Muay Thai Association is cooking up next!
