Melbourne, FL – 11/23/2014 – The Anglers for Conservation’s 1st Annual Protect Our Waters Fundraising Party was a very big hit. Over 100 AFC supporters attended the evening fundraising party that was held this past weekend at Florida’s Viera Heritage Isle Clubhouse.
A roomful of recreational anglers and sports fishing icons gathered to not only raise nearly $20,000 for AFC projects. The party also increased awareness of the importance of healthy habitats and clean waters that give Space Coast anglers a truly amazing fishing experience.
The event had many great sponsors, who donated items for the silent auction. National brands like Guideline Eyegear, Spot, Orca Coolers, and Columbia Sportswear. The fundraiser also had support from local artisans like Steve Bowman, aka “The Bonz Carver”, who donated four custom fish carvings, he created from elk bone.
The entertainment was provided by an Orlando Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Roots, Soul, Jazz band called “Control This”. You can find them playing at the West End Trading Company on November 29th and at Will’s Pub on January 1st and the 9th and February 7th. The band members are Jeff Richey, Justin Franco, Lucas Scarpelli, Chris King, Tom Infande, and Jake Jones. You can watch a video clip from their performance at the Anglers for Conservations Protect Our Waters Fundraising Party by clicking HERE.
At this event, the first Linda Goode Conservation Awards were presented by the Anglers for Conservation (AFC) to Mike Conneen, Dr. Grant Gilmore and Jody Palmer for their stellar efforts to promote marine conservation and support stewardship of the Indian River Lagoon.
Even though the award ceremony was a big part of the event, I liked the live auction where fishing trips with Captains Mike Holiday, Jim Ross, Mark Nichols and Blair Wiggins were auctioned off. Each auction winner paid up to $1,000 for the chance to be part of a guided fishing adventure by each of these well renowned Florida fishing captains.
At the end of the fundraise party Rodney Smith, AFC founder, thanked all the attendees and supporters of this event who helped make it fun and successful!
