A Daily Word from the Word for Monday, November 24, 2014
The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing, to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.” – Psalm 92:12-15
What an amazing promise to possess! Get this vision in your mind, my brother. Secure this deposit in your spirit, my sister. Can you imagine being planted in the house of the Lord, and flourishing in His courts? Let this image marinate for a moment and saturate your soul.
The promises of God are astounding and eternal. I am laying hold of this promise of staying fresh and bearing fruit all the days of my life, and well into old age. I am claiming the full 120 years that God gave to Moses. Deuteronomy 34:7 testifies of this refreshing truth as it proclaims “And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.” Living as God’s righteous sons and daughters, we can be fat and flourishing old folks!
“Fat” as used here is dashen (pr. daw-shane), which means “to anoint, satisfy, rich, fertile,” and “flourishing” (raanan, pr. rah-an-awn) is “to be green, prosperous” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Webster’s Dictionary defines “flourish” as to grow well, to be healthy, to be very successful, to do very well.” God has anointed us to flourish; and I love to flourish because it is His will that I prosper in all things (3 John 1:2). And as I do, my life is a living testimony that points to the Glory of God, which then draws others to the Father’s goodness.
So where does the sap come in? I am glad you asked :-). The psalmist gives us insight into this “fat,” this substance, as it reveals “The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which He hath planted” (Psalm 104:16). Webster gives us a richer understanding of sap as “a body fluid (as blood) essential to life, health, or vigor; bodily health and vigor.” Are you flourishing with the glory of God, my brother? Are you radiating with adorning sap, my sister? What’s running through your life, family?
The cedars of Lebanon are a tall, astounding, and magnificent species. God made us, in His Image, to be such a prized people—a masterpiece reflecting His Glory. “The cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani) is a tall evergreen tree which has been prized for its high quality timber, oils and resins for thousands of years. The national emblem of Lebanon, it was famously used to build the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem, as well as the ships and temples of the Egyptian pharaohs. The resin of the cedar of Lebanon was even used in mummification by the Ancient Egyptians. This conifer usually has a single, thick trunk with many horizontal, spirally arranged branches, which can be quite stout” (arkive.org).
God has placed, within every born again believer, His Holy Spirit. He has rubbed us with the anointing of His Holiness. Out of us should flow our life force, our sap, our oil, Who is Holy Spirit. We should be overflowing with God in us. The love of the Father should be oozing out of us, and people should view us as a cherished possession of our Creator, vying to be touched and transformed by the glory within us, gleaning His goodness from our being so that they too can become His.
If we are not producing the substance of sacred resin, then something is wrong. God lives on the inside of us; therefore, it is not more of God that we need, but less of us within us which is blocking the flow of God coming out of us.
Let us spend more time savoring our place and position in the Father’s house, and judiciously flourishing in His courts, so that we can be for others, who God called us to be, which is a pleasant place of shelter overflowing with His Holy Spirit drawing others to Himself through His Son.
Father, we repent for blocking You from flowing completely through us. Help us, Holy God, to release every barrier within us over to You that we have erected which prevents the flow of Your Most Precious Holy Spirit from freely coursing through our beings and out of us to those who need a touch from You. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we have been made in Your Holy and Perfect Image and planted firmly in You for Your Glory. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to focus on your true identity which is found only in Jesus Christ. Choose to allow God to establish you in His house, and prosper you in His courts for His good pleasure. Claim and walk in the promises of God concerning His plan and purpose for you. And continue to fight the good fight of overflowing with the Father’s Holy Spirit; for God, your Righteous Root, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
