While the news of Assassin’s Creed: Chronicles in itself is not all that fresh. The development of Chronicles being a three part series platformer, China, India and Russia, certainly is. The first of this series is being dubbed, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China. Which will debut on April, 21st 2015 in the United States. For other countries the debut will be on April, 22nd 2015 according to Tom Phillips over at EUROGAMER.net.
Directly from Ubisoft, As the Ming dynasty starts to crumble Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China is set in the year 1526 and features the Chinese Brotherhood Assassin, Shao Jun. Being newly trained by Ezio Auditore she seeks to wage a personal vendetta to restore the fallen brotherhood.
True to the Assassin’s Creed experience, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles is a 2.5D re-imagining of the celebrated franchise. Experience parkour on the Great Wall, kill from the shadows, and take the Leap of Faith in a vibrant setting designed for digital download.
Features of the game worth mentioning include but are not limited to:
Navigating on multiple planes, fore, mid and background to open up new pathways, complete side missions or collect hidden treasure. Use of Shao Jun’s weapons along with freedom of movement, making the player feel like anything can be accomplished. As well as becoming glued to the “unique art direction” with its reflection of a living painting.
The notion of transforming a long standing 3D game into a 2.5D platformer is rather interesting. At first glance it would seem they may have touched on something potentially big here, are they even tapping into a new niche? Possibly but only time will tell whether this bold move by Ubisoft will actually pay off for them in the long run. There seems to be enough interest in this new direction around the internet but will that be enough to carve another epic notch in the Assassin’s Creed belt?
