A cadre of style experts from GQ and Glamour magazines will descend on Atlanta’s Lenox Square Mall this Saturday (April 25, 1-6 p.m.) to encourage single shoppers to flirt with each other as well as the trendiest spring/summer looks for nights out on the town.
The free event is dubbed: “LookBook Live: Make A Date With Style”. During the occasion, the luxury mall’s chicest shops will stage innovative activities to coax clients into the shopping and dating spirit. Most of activity will take place in the main concourse outside of the Macy’s anchor store.
On the agenda: fashion shows moderated by stylists from the magazines; Style Closet consultations where couples can engage in impromptu dates with expert stylists serving as their chaperones; Beauty Stations offering complimentary trims and touch-ups; Style Challenges with prizes going to entrants who can pack their suitcases best for a surprise get-away; a Photo Booth that will post poses immediately to guests’ social network; and a $2,500 shopping spree prize for the shopper that experts deem to be most fashionable.
While making final preparations for this weekend’s Lenox Mall event, GQ Executive Stylist Brett Fahlgren engaged the Examiner with a lively Q&A session to give guys a head start on gearing up.
What’s GQ’s main message about dressing for spring/summer?
“Style is one of the few things in life we have complete control over, so take advantage! In the spring and summer, it’s all about putting your heavier weight fabrics toward the back of the closet and focusing on seasonal appropriate, lighter colors and fabrics like cotton, linen and lighter-weight wools. Spring is a great time to hit the refresh button by layering less, simplifying your look and paring down.”
What’s different about the way Atlanta men dress compared to other cities?
“Atlanta is a such great city when it comes to style. Men are not afraid to step up their game and try new things.”
Are men generally getting more open to accepting style advice?
“Yes, it’s changed significantly. A decade ago, men might have relied solely on their significant other to style them. But now guys are a lot more interested in finding brands they like, understanding the vital importance of clothes that fit properly and are very open to getting good Intel. That’s where our event at (Lenox) comes in. It’s all about helping people find a look that will rock the interview, the big date or any scenario that life throws at them.”
Should men dress to impress or for comfort?
“I think you can have it all. One of my favorite items in my wardrobe is a sports jacket. You can just throw it on and it does all the work for you. Find one that is versatile and can go from the office to a night out with ease. Look for a less structured shoulder and one made of a more breathable fabric like cotton. It will allow you to easily hit the dance floor while landing that coveted second date. We’ll have plenty of options to share at our event.”
