Detailing their progress implementing their Velocity IP plan (VIP) for future network upgrades, AT&T declared over $2 billion was spent upgrading wired and wireless connectivity in Los Angeles over the last three years.
Over 388 upgrades were built out for wireless networking, both improving older towers and constructing new towers. U-Verse also saw growth, providing access to over 68,000 new customers. Network infrastructure has been a critical focus for Big Blue as the carrier is looking at a whole new generation of data consuming devices like wearables, connected cars, and home management.
These upgrades have also brought other benefits, like providing fiber high speed data to business in LA, and free WiFi to areas in Pasadena.

Investment Expands Access to Nation’s Strongest 4G LTE Signal, AT&T U-verse Services
los angeles, ca MARCH 30, 2015 — AT&T* has invested more than $2 billion in its best-in-class wireless and wired networks in the greater Los Angeles area between 2012 through 2014, driving a wide range of upgrades to enhance reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.
As part of its Velocity IP Plan (VIP), an investment plan focused on network enhancement and expansion, AT&T in 2014 made 388 wireless network upgrades in the greater Los Angeles area, including new cell sites, addition of network capacity, and new wireless high-speed Internet connections. Additionally, AT&T expanded the reach of its network, providing access to AT&T U-verse® High Speed Internet, AT&T U-verse video and AT&T U-verse voice services to nearly 68,500 new customer locations.
