Former WWE professional wrestler and actress Trish Stratus (Bounty Hunters) has built an incredible career over the years on camera. She began as a sports fitness model, elevated herself to perhaps the most-decorated female professional wrestler of all-time but after she retired from that profession, focused on establishing her own brand of health and physical fitness. A proponent of yoga and exercise, Stratus opened her own yoga studio ‘Stratusphere’ in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada to wildly popular success. The reason being, Stratus has an incredibly warm and giving personality, instantly likeable which is why she became so famous in and outside the ring.
So its almost a no-brainer that Stratus would start to roll out her own personal training DVD’s to reach more people and show off her particular style of exercise and health. The first edition ‘Stratusphere Yoga’ was released in the fall of 2014 and very much focused on those techniques that are practiced regularly by Stratus and her studio. But for those looking to tone and increase their muscular appearance, Stratus has followed that up with ‘Stratusphere Sculpt’; a circuit training program that specifically targets every muscle group.
The roughly 50 minute video begins with an introduction by Stratus explaining the program’s structure and goals, moves into the circuit exercises for only about 30-35 minutes and then utilizes an extensive cool-down regiment of stretching, Stratus’s signature yoga techniques and relaxation. After completing the circuit training, a participant will feel very well worked over by Stratus through a combination of weight training, abdominal crunches and modified push-ups. For clarification the program is not a high-energy cardiovascular program (although Stratus does get the heart rate pumping throughout the circuits) intended to lose weight (perhaps that will be the third video down the road), but instead molds the body into shape. But participants should know that Stratus works quickly with the reps and the circuits so be prepared to keep moving.
With Stratus already an established personality on camera, she is an excellent instructor for a personal training video; friendly but efficient, never coming off as a drill sergeant or a trainer who will over-push a participant to the point of severe pain the next day from the shock of the doing the program for the first time. It’s a welcoming and refreshing approach that has certainly what has made her Stratusphere studio thrive and why she has maintained her celebrity status well beyond her time as a pro-wrestler.
The DVD edition (released on December 16, 2014) isn’t overly complicated as is the case with most personal training videos, but Stratus does something very intelligently with the look. To make the training and the movement incredibly clear to a viewer mimicking the exercises, Stratus and her team operate in a completely blank, white background canvas instead of a gym or studio set which could be distracting to the eyes trying to focus on the trainer. Even the bench prop needed for the routines is not made of color, but rather a transparent clear plastic. As a result the image is very clear and appealing to the eye in 480p standard definition. The audio is an expected 2.0 sound mode in both English and French.
So if you’re looking for a way to start your New Year’s health resolution to an excellent start at home, within the span of three months Trish Stratus has given you a way to do that straight from Stratusphere studio with her exercise training DVD’s and the ‘Sculpt’ option is an excellent one that will keep the body working and guessing, instead of getting complacent with standard routines that don’t bring physical results.
