Tonight’s Discovery Channel episode of “Bering Sea Gold,” is titled “I Quit!” As the episode begins, it is late August in Nome, Alaska and the sprint to the finish is on. At Belmont Beach the Kellys are together again; on the Reaper, that is. Since his father started a new family, Kris was evicted from his home to make room for the new baby. Emily lost a dredger a few weeks back, and today; Tony Mann is down with a severe hangover. It is just she and Darryl Valle today, and as he reaches the bottom, he sees vegetation in a spot that looks like it is virgin turf.
On the Tom Cod claim, the Christine Rose is getting ready to continue his hunt for a thousand ounces. He meets up with guys in a small boat that are roping off their claim by setting buoys to keep Shawn off the claim. This is against the rules, and it could kill someone if their lines are snagged. However, Shawn has the biggest dredge, and they are just flies he flicks away.
On the other side of the Tom Cod claim, Vern Adkison along with his daughter Elaine and her boyfriend Shem are getting ready for the day. Vern wants his daughter to have a managerial position in his empire. He wants the clean out mats changed for each diver, so he can tell who is working and who is not, but Elaine does not agree with his policy. She acquired her hardheadedness from him.
Back in Nome, Emily tells her father, Steve that she is having some trouble with her crew. He is the last person she should ask after failing as a captain twice, but who else can she go to for consolation? Last year, her whole crew quit on her, and she fears the same is happening. He suggests that she sets boundaries for them, but she is fearful of losing any respect they may have for her.
When Kris Kelly comes to the surface after his father called him stupid, he has berated him for the last time as Kris declared, “I Quit!” Finally, Kris did the right thing and left his father. It took a while for him to realize that he was no longer a member of his father’s family. Kris was not the only one feeling that way; Elaine called Vern and told him she quit too. He was pissed off and now hopes she never darkens his door again asking for help.
Emily took her father’s advice and set a curfew of 11 p.m. with the doors closing at midnight. Now they feel like prisoners with Emily as the warden. It is Emily’s birthday, and Steve gave her a 44 Magnum that made her very happy. Kris went right to meet with a first-time miner named Boston Dave who offers him a partnership in his dredge called Loko. At Emily’s house, the curfew is not sitting well with Darryl and Tony and when she returned, they both told her those same two words, “I Quit!”
At the Christine Rose clean up shack, Shawn and his crew is having a blast filling up a jar with gold; their tally for the day was 176.5 ounces worth $212,000, and nobody is jumping the ship on this episode of “Bering Sea Gold.”
