Beyonce gave a sneak peak of her intense workout regimen on Instagram Feb. 25. Beyonce did sit-ups, squats and boxing punches in rapid succession in honor of Michelle Obama’s “Let Move” anti-obesity campaign, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary.
“Celebrating the 5th anniversary of Let’s Move! #GimmeFive @MichelleObama,” Beyonce wrote in the Instagram photo caption. In 2010, First Lady Michelle Obama launched the “Let’s Move” campaign, a program devoted to stemming the epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States.
As part of the initiative, Mrs. Obama encourages kids to eat healthier foods and to exercise daily. In 2013, the Let’s Move campaign was cited as a factor in helping reduce childhood obesity in 19 U.S. states and territories. Through the years, Beyonce has vocally supported “Let’s Move,” encouraging kids to work out and be active.
Beyonce, who previously credited a vegan diet for her 65-pound post-baby weight loss, recently launched a vegan meal delivery service with her trainer Marco Borges, CEO of 22 Days Nutrition, a maker of vegan, organic, gluten-free protein bars.
“I am so grateful I took the challenge and credit Marco with leading by example,” Beyoncé said in a press release. “If I can do it, anyone can.”
The vegan meals offered on Beyonce’s weekly food delivery service range in price from $9.76 to $16.50 and are 100 percent plant-based and gluten-free. They don’t contain soy, dairy or GMOs. Beyonce said she’s proud to offer the vegan meal plan to help others reach their weight loss and health goals.
Beyonce’s Weight Loss Secrets Include Mostly Vegan Diet
In December 2013, Beyonce adopted a 22-day vegan diet with her husband, Jay-Z, Celebrity Health reported. The couple emerged from their vegan diet challenge looking noticeably slimmer.
At the time, Jay-Z cited a desire for a “physical and spiritual cleanse” as the reason for eliminating meat and animal products. Beyonce and Jay-Z no longer follow a 100 percent vegan diet, but continue to eat mostly vegan for weight loss and health reasons.
“Beyonce’s sticking to a mostly plant-based diet with some fish here and there,” said her trainer Marco Borges.
The 5-foot-7 Beyonce who weighed 195 pounds while pregnant, lost 65 pounds shortly afterward by following a mostly vegan diet and working out several days a week. Marco said Beyoncé is a workout fanatic who usually works out with Jay-Z, doing a combination of cardio exercise, body-weight squats, lunges, sprint intervals and plyometric exercises.
“They’ll work out together whenever possible,” said Borges. “Beyonce will be running and he’ll be on a bike, or she’ll be jumping rope and he’ll be running.”
