The Big East Tournament schedule and printable bracket is set to roll! The Big East may have lost big named schools like Syracuse, Notre Dame and Louisville, but that doesn’t mean that this conference isn’t ready to battle it out this March.
According to Bleacher Report, the Big East Conference Tournament will begin on March 11 and run through championship Sunday, March 14. For all the doubters who believed the Big East as a conference was in trouble after losing so many marquee teams, you may want to start changing your mind now.
The No. 1 ranked Villanova Wildcats are not just tops in the East, but they are a serious contender to win it all. The Cats finished the season 16-2 in conference play and 29-2 overall. These guys don’t just win, they win big! Villanova has beaten almost every team at home by an average of 14 points and they also are tough on the road as well. Nova heads into the tourney on a 12 game winning streak with their last loss coming at Georgetown on Jan. 19.
While Villanova is tough, let’s not count out some other teams in the Big East that are also very capable of taking home the crown. Georgetown was one of only two teams to beat Nova this season and they know what it takes to pull off an upset.
The Hoyas finished tied for second place in the Big East with Butler at 22-9. Led by D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Joshua Smith, Georgetown can be a sleeper folks need to watch out for. One sleeper I believe in is St. John’s. The Red Storm are a scrappy bunch that never seems to give up. The official Red Storm website announced on March 9 that Sir’ Dominic Pointer was named the 2014-15 Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year and earned the conference’s Most Improved Player Award announced by the league Monday. Pointer is a beast and will be a NBA star one day but for now he is hoping to shock the Big East and possibly March Madness world by leading the Storm to a title.
