It was a big weekend for the animated film “Big Hero 6” as it won the Oscar for Best Animated Film Feature at the 87th Annual Academy Awards this past Saturday. After landing the big award prize, the film heads to Blu-ray / DVD today at stores and online.
In the film teen prodigy Hiro Hamada (voiced by Ryan Potter) is dissuaded by his brother Tadashi (voiced by Daniel Henney) to stop betting on robot battle games and use his talent for more worthwhile project like Tadashi’s robot Baymax. But after a tragic accident happens, Hiro must decide if he will help in capturing a masked villain with the newly found friends turned super heroes along with rebooting a crime fighting Baymax (voiced by Scott Adsit).
Directed by Chris Williams and Don Hall, the twosome said that there will a lot of fun Easter eggs to discover on the DVD. “One of my favorite features is the animation bloopers. We never understood how our animators had time to do this. They would always do gag scenes. I was so gullible and it was set up. Every time we would go to dailies, they would say they had a different way about the shot ,” added Don Hall. They would have different versions that were actually gag reels which are included in the DVD.
“There are some fun deleted scenes that are nice to see that ultimately didn’t make the cut. We got a few of those. There’s a fun music montage called the Beatmax and a documentary as well,” says Chris Williams.
The film has captured the hearts around the world as what Ryan Potter and Daniel Henney can attest to, “The film is about to be released in France and hasn’t been released in China. The steady success of the film is awesome,” says Potter.
Potters adds why people should pick up the Blu-ray / DVD release, “You get behind the scenes stuff that everyone loves to see like us in the booth but there’s director’s commentary, two alternate openings that are super cool. Really early on they kept changing the opening and I went in and we recorded a different opening every time I went it seemed like. “
Ryan thinks it will be cool for the people to watch the two alternate beginning of the film.
Potter says the world of “Big Hero 6” is so large that people will get to see all the extras on the DVD.
Daniel Henney added, “I think especially with animated films it’s interesting to get the DVD because of the behind the scenes stuff. I mean I know there’s some stuff of us recording our voices but there’s much more. Drawings from its inception which is interesting with animated films because it’s very different than live action. I myself is very excited to see all the behind the scenes stuff.”
If Daniel Henney is excited to see all the added bonuses on the Blu-ray / DVD release of “Big Hero 6,” you probably will also.
“Big Hero 6” is available now on Blu-ray / DVD, VOD and online download.
