For the past 15 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay has been holding their annual “Big Night”, an up-scale, spectacular fundraiser to support the organization and it’s mission of bringing youth together with adult mentors. Featuring top-notch entertainment and a vibrant cocktail party, it is not surprising that the event landed on Boston Herald’s “Most Fabulous Fetes of 2014″ last year. Past events have included such performances from recording artists like The Black Crowes, Fitz and the Tantrums, Blondie and many more. Of course the most important thing is the money that is raised to help the 2,000 youths who are benefited by BBBSMB’s services. There have been approximately 10,000 youths paired to a Big Brother or Sister, with a network of 155 cities and towns being served. However there is always more that can be done. There are still roughly 900 youths waiting to be paired to date, and with this year’s fundraiser, BBBSMB is hoping to raised $1.6 million to help their programs as well as increase awareness and the potential to bring in new volunteers to the organization. “Big Night is one of the highest energy and most anticipated events in Boston – has been a powerful fundraising tool for our organization” says CEO Wendy Foster.
The 16th annual Big Night is being held this coming Saturday February 7th at the House of Blues, a colorful, eclectic venue that is not only one of the city’s premier live venues but is also the perfect setting for Big Night. The evening’s festivities will include a swinging cocktail party, an auction and some fantastic live music by the Grammy Award-winning Shaggy and 90’s pop culture darlings the Goo Goo Dolls. Performing at the event is something that the Dolls’ vocalist Johnny Rzeznik says they’re more than happy to do. “We’re honored to come to Boston to rock out for a great cause. It’s going to be an awesome night, and it’s great that it will support the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay mentoring initiative.” Emcees of the night are none other than Billy Costa and Lisa Donovan of Kiss 108’s Matty in the Morning.
The event is now sold out, but you can still donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters by going to bbbsmb.org where you can also find more information about the organization.
