Nigeria’s infamous Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram has attacked the town of Baga which is on the border of Chad. Mostly women, children, and elderly were killed because they were slow in getting away from the attack. Many of the bodies are still lying in the brush as many fighters are still in the area. Boko Haram also attacked a military base in the area leaving hundreds more dead across the region. This has been called the bloodiest attack in the history of Boko Haram. The world has cried foul over the slaughter but once again has done little to stop these attacks against defenseless villagers.
Many of the victims had no weapons They had little to stand up to the machine guns that were blowing bodies apart This senseless act of violence comes as no surprise as it seems anytime that another Islamic group grabs a headline Boko Haram has to do the same. Last week in France terrorist attacked the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and killed 12 cartoonists and workers. When the authorities surrounded the attackers some days later another splinter group or person attacked a Jewish deli killing four more people.
Boko Haram in the past year has kidnapped over 400 schoolchildren mostly young girls. Sold them into slavery or simply married them off to the highest bidder and it didn’t matter how old the girls were.
During the World Cup games last summer Nigeria had won the right to play in the tournament. Many people would gather to watch the games that their fellow countrymen were playing in and Boko Haram took this as a sign to blow them up killing thousands.
Just recently in the town Maiduguri a young girl some feel was around the age of ten walked into the market square and blew up hundreds of people. Witnesses said they believe that the girl was merely a pawn and not an active member of Boko Haram.
These recent attacks make many feel that Boko Haram is taking their message of violence to a new level. The intensity of the attacks and the sheer violence makes people believe that Boko Haram may be going for the total overthrow of the Nigerian government. The worst part of all this is that the government of Nigeria is hesitant on taking any help from outside forces. It is clear though that the government is not able to put an end to the violence
The Islamic terrorists not just in Nigeria but around the globe have in recent weeks started to take the fight into a new direction, maximum casualties. No longer are the attacks on the small scale but hundreds and thousands of innocent victims will be killed in these attacks.
