Tired of Shakespeare? Need a break from Wicked? Getting bored with TV, HULU or Red Box? Then come on out from some hilarious and fun skit comedy at one of the most innovative and fun venues in “Hollywood” and Chick Vennera’s Renegade Theatre and Film Group. For many years now Chick Vennera and his team have been helping some of the finest actors in town polish their skills. Periodically they will produce a stage performance for a happy public to enjoy. Their latest offering, Boners & Other Stupid Mistakes, is a severely laugh inducing work of comedic theatrical art.
The show is wrapped around a guy doing a dumb guy thing and then making the terrible mistake of actually admitting his action and reaction to his wife. The mistake is going with a couple of guy pals to a strip club for a little celebration. He levels with the wife about the guy’s night out and she is okay with it until after the fact when she starts asking questions about how he reacted to the entertainment at the club. He clumsily describes the event and that inspires his wife to seek her own form of a boner. Let the fun begin.
Cori Cable Kidder stars as Abby, the loyal wife with a naughty vengeful idea. The always lovely Theodora Greece is Lena, Abby’s longtime friend and co-adventurer. Rob Roy is Ben the hapless hubby who confesses to his manly reaction to naked women. Don DiPetta, former Major League baseball player hits it out of the park as Matt, loving husband of Lena and all around advocate of having a good time. James William O’Halloran is sensational as yoga guru and all around true horn dog Alex.
The fantastic core team is supported by Lucy Lawrence, Catherine Day, Ren Michael, Dennis Boyle and Dan Flood.
“Boners & Other Stupid Mistakes” is based on a story by Janna King and Kelly Kalichman and pretty much any man who has ever been married to or otherwise lived with a woman for any length of time. The show is written and directed by Janna King and produced by the always amazing Emily O’Meara.
It is a major laugh generator and filled with hilarity often a wee bit on the risqué side but never over the edge, at least not in my view. However, I would discourage bringing the kids or the overly sensitive.
“Boners & Other Stupid Mistakes” is currently at the Renegade Theatre, 1514 N. Gardner Street [just off of Sunset], Hollywood, California 90046 now through March 15th. Show times are Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 6:00 PM. And tickets are only $10, clearly one of the best entertainment values in town. You may preorder at www.bonersosm.eventbrite.com or run the risk of a sold out performance and just buy them at the theatre. Either way you are sure to leave laughing.
