Here we go again Boston, another music weekend with places to go and people to see and be seen. Where are you going? Here are some of my suggestions for you. On Friday, May 1, let’s start with a fashionista event. It’s the “Step into Spring Fashion Show” at Assembly Row, 450 Artisan Way in Boston. This is one of the largest fashion events of the season and it’s a benefit for “Project Smile,” the nonprofit organization helping children who are victims of traumatic events. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a Best-in-Shoe competition (what girl doesn’t LOVE shoes) with prizes and special celebrity judges, including Kennedy from Mix 104.1 and host Danielle Vollmar of WCVB-TV. Let the music begin at The Next Page, 550 Broad Street in East Weymouth with “Satch’s Reunion Rockin Blues Bash.” Romano and his “Mighty House Rockers Band” along with Lickity Split and some very special guests will bring the house down. Owner of the Next Page, Eddie Page is going to be putting out some ‘grub” for this event. Come on down! No cover charge.
The Beehive, 541 Tremont Street in Boston has Scotch Bonnet, a reggae jazz and soul band on Friday, May 1. Scotch Bonnet has backed and shared the stage with reggae legends including: Toots Hibbert, Third World, Burning Spear, Ken Boothe, Barrington Levy, Derrick Morgan, Kiddus I, Bob Andy, The Congos, and more. Leaving Eden will be at the Skybox Restuarant, 553 Main Street in Tewksbury on Friday, May 1. Also, joining them are two other bands, Cross the Divide and Diamond Edge Live. Texas blues man, Willie J. Laws and his band will accompany Ron Levy and his organic blues all stars on Saturday, May 2 at the American Legion Post 101 in Woburn. It’s a night of blues for veterans with Ron Levy’s Organic Blues All-Stars who will alsobe joined by Doug James on sax, Judy Teo on vocals, and Ed Scheer on drums and vocals. Professor Harp brings the blues to Striker’s Pub, 66 Hathaway Road in New Bedford on Saturday, May 2. He started out in 1977 and is all about the blues, soul and good old rock and roll. He’s somewhat of a legend in these parts. For more info: www.professorharp.com
