A 7-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a full-size pickup truck while walking with his mom and two siblings Thursday in Marietta. And police said potential charges may be filed once the investigation is complete.
The incident happened around 5:10 p.m. on Franklin Road near Delk Road, according to Marietta police. Investigators said Cynthia Howe was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 north on Franklin Road in the center turning lane when the crash happened. Katasha Stienstra was attempting to cross Franklin Road with her three children, ages 2, 7 and 8, outside of a crosswalk when the middle child was struck, police spokesman Officer Brian Wallace said.
Stienstra told police she was holding the two girls and the 7-year-old was walking alone when he was struck, Wallace said. The boy, whose name was not released, was transported by Metro Atlanta Ambulance to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite where he was listed in stable condition, Wallace said.
Investigators are reviewing potential charges, but as of late Thursday the case was still under investigation. It’s also unclear what charges may be filed. No one else was injured in the incident.
Motorcyclist Killed in Cobb County Wreck
A motorcyclist was killed and a woman and her teenage daughter injured in a crash Thursday afternoon in Cobb County. And police said charges are likely against the woman. The incident happened shortly after 6:20 p.m. on Windy Hill Road at Favor Road in Marietta, according to Cobb County police.
Investigators said Maria T. Howard, 50, of Marietta, was driving a white 2004 Kia Optima westbound on Windy Hill Road when she attempted to turn left into southbound Favor Road with her 15-year-old daughter seated in the front passenger seat. At that point, the operator of a green 2008 Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Windy Hill Road, police spokeswoman Officer Alicia Chilton said.
As Howard was making a left turn, the Kia was struck on the passenger side by the motorcycle, Chilton said. The motorcycle operator, whose name has not been released, died at the scene, she said. The woman and her daughter were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Chilton said.
Charges are expected to be filed in the crash, Chilton said. Still the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about what happened is asked to call the police department at (770) 499-3987.
“The motorcycle was going too fast to be coming that way, I was just walking then the motorcycle just bam,” said Preston Smith, according to Fox 5 Channel News.
