The Bonnaroo Cinema Tent is one of the best kept secrets at the festival. A fully functioning and air conditioned movie theater parked in the middle of Centeroo is more than just movies, although there are plenty of those running day and night. The Bonnaroo 2015 Cinema Tent schedule, which was revealed today, also includes celebrity guests, advanced screenings, interactive movie experiences, and exclusive concerts and Q&A sessions related to the movies being shown.
The biggest news to come from the Bonnaroo 2015 Cinema Tent announcement is the lineup of celebrity guests. Fans already learned last week that comedy troupe Broken Lizard would be bringing a live reading of their hit “Super Troopers” to Bonnaroo. But Broken Lizard is far from the only celebrity pop in at the Cinema Tent. ’80s heartthrob Corey Feldman will be on hand for what is being dubbed the Ultimate Corey Feldman Party on Friday, June 12. This party block will consist of a Q&A session with Feldman, a quote-along screening of ’80s kid classics “The Goonies” and “The Lost Boys”, and a live performance by Corey Feldman & the Angels. On Saturday, June 13, comedian Denis Leary will be on hand, along with co-stars Elizabeth Gilles and Robert Kelly, to discuss and screen their new FX series “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll.”
For those looking for something they can’t find in their local cinemaplex, Bonnaroo is offering a number of advance movie screenings as well. On Thursday, June 11, the new Judd Apatow film “Trainwreck”, starring Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, and Tilda Swinton. On Friday, June 12, the documentary “Being Evel” will be shown. The film, produced by Johnny Knoxville, follows the life of the “King of the Daredevils”, Evel Knievel, whose motorcycle stunts made him a household name in the ’60s and ’70s. On Sunday, June 14 comes an advance showing of “Eden.” Following the French electronic dance movement, “Eden” follows a Paris teenager in the ’90s who makes his way through the city’s underground club scene.
Music is what Bonnaroo is all about so it’s no surprise that the Bonnaroo Cinema Tent has plenty of music documentaries with interviews and mini-concerts from the film’s stars. This year’s musical offerings include a screening of 2015 Oscar winner “Birdman” with a live drum score by Antonio Sanchez. Also featured will be a screening of “Heartworn Highways Revisited”, featuring a Q&A with the film’s director Wayne Price and a performance by Bobby Bare Jr., Shelly Colvin, and Donny Fritz. Bonnaroo 2015 performer Bela Fleck is the subject of “How to Write a Banjo Concerto” and will participate in a Q&A and mini-concert after the film. Ben Lovett of Bonnaroo 2015 headliners Mumford & Sons will be on hand along with filmmakers Macus Haney and Ty Johnson to introduce their new documentary film “Austin to Boston.”
Finally, following the popularity in recent years of the “Trapped in the Closet” sing-along and the live screening of “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, Bonnaroo has upped their interactive movie experiences greatly this year. By popular demand, the “Trapped in the Closet” sing-along is back, joined by quote-along screenings of the 30th Anniversary edition of the “Back to the Future” trilogy, “Mean Girls”, “Zoolander”, and “Clueless.”
