Bruce Jenner, who recently came out as transgender, will document his sex change transition in an eight-part reality TV series set to air in July.
Jenner, who declared “I am a woman” during his TV interview with Diane Sawyer, will chronicle his breast implant plastic surgery and adjustment to living as a woman in the E! reality series.
“The series will tell Bruce’s intimate story and will join him as he seeks out his ‘new normal,'” E! revealed.
“Living for the first time as the person he feels he was born to be, the docuseries will also explore what Bruce’s transition means for the people in his life and how those relationships are affected, while offering a better understanding of many of life’s challenges. This series will present an unfiltered look as Bruce boldly steps into uncharted territory and is true to himself for the first time.”
Jenner’s docuseries will receive input from LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) groups and from GLAAD (formerly the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) as part of an effort to educate the public about transgender identity issues.
Now that he has gone public about his transition, Jenner is feeling relieved and unburdened for the first time in decades. Bruce first tried transitioning 30 years ago, but stopped after taking female hormones for five years because he was worried how his transition to a woman would affect his children.
Bruce told ABC News he began hormone therapy, got electrolysis and plastic surgery in 1985 to make his face look more feminine but stopped after five years of hormone treatments over concerns about his kids. Jenner has six biological children and four stepchildren (the Kardashians).
Jenner’s first wife, Chrystie Crownover Scott, said Bruce was a longtime cross-dresser who had wanted sex change surgery for decades. Bruce sought out doctors in Denmark to explore having sex change surgery, but then gave up shortly after he started dating Kris Jenner.
Bruce got breast reduction surgery and stopped his hormone treatments after meeting Kris in September 1990. The couple married in April 1991 and divorced in 2014.
Bruce recently got breast implants and said he wears women’s dresses, bras and lingerie at home, but still wears men’s clothes in public because he’s afraid of public ridicule.
Jenner told Diane Sawyer he has been preparing to become a woman for decades. “My whole life has been getting ready for this,” said Jenner. “It made me who I am.”
Bruce’s face looks a lot softer after getting a nose job to look more womanly. The former Olympic gold medalist also appears to have gotten lip injections, and his cheekbones look rounder and more pronounced.
Jenner’s plastic surgeries will be featured on his docuseries. “Bruce had silicone breast implants put in a few weeks ago,” said a source. “He went with a smaller implant because he didn’t want to look ridiculous.’
Bruce Recently Got Breast Implants: Has Been Crossdressing for Decades
Jenner has already gotten several other plastic surgeries as part of his sex change transition, Celebrity Health reported. In December 2013, Bruce got a laryngeal shave, a plastic surgery procedure that flattens the Adam’s apple. Bruce also had a nose job and a partial facelift in 1984, and a second corrective facelift in 2009.
Jenner is also getting hormone treatments to prepare for his transition. Family insiders said Bruce wants to live the remainder of his life honestly, as the woman he felt he was born to be.
“Bruce had enough of trying to fool himself and others,” said an insider. “Once he realized he was done taking a backseat in his own life, he knew it was time to be honest with himself.”
Jenner’s first wife, Chrystie Crownover Scott said she couldn’t be happier for Bruce for trying to live the remainder of his life authentically.
“Someone who has lived 65 years of his life as the wrong gender has every right to live the last quarter of his life as his authentic self,” said Crownover. “I support him and so hope the world can too. I pray for his happiness for the rest of his journey.”
