Two Carlsbad women recently represented the United States in an international tennis event in Turkey.
Debbie Spence-Nasim and Gee Gee Garvin were part of a 24-player(men and women) team from the USA who played in the inaugural ITF Young Seniors World Team Championships in Antalya, Turkey from March 16-29. Teams from 25 countries competed in the event.
This was Garvin’s second consecutive appearance as part of the team while Spence-Nasim competed in the championships for the first time.
Garvin played in the Women’s 35 and over event, the Suzanne Lenglen Cup, in which the USA finished in 6th place. She was also the captain for the team. Spence-Nasim was in the Women’s 40 and over Young Cup as her team finished in 3rd place.
For men and women tennis players in the age range of 35-45, the ITF Young Seniors World Team Championships is the highest-ranked event on the ITF Seniors Circuit. Previously these championships had been part of the ITF Seniors World Team Championships.
