On a recent episode of “Catch a Contractor,” comedian Adam Carolla and his friends, licensed home-improvement contractor Skip Bedell and his beautiful private investigator wife, Alison are going after the worst contractors in America on this episode titled “If at First You Don’t Succeed, Lie, Lie Again.” Before Adam became famous for his comedy and other endeavors, he was a contractor, now the team is on the job to hunt down the dirt bags that screw over innocent people, and force them to complete the jobs they left unfinished. If they cannot find these people, they will finish the job and help the family take legal action against these crooks.
Adam and Skip went to meet with Marc Herron and his girlfriend Krystal. Their contractor Karl left them without a deck and a retaining wall that is falling down. The contractor’s bid was to put in a retaining wall, deck and French doors for $58,000 and of that Marc paid $57,000. Marc’s friend recommended him and they checked the website and saw nice pictures of his work. The deck could kill someone because it is not secure and the framing was not put in properly.
Rather than have someone recognize Alison, Rebecca will be posing as the homeowner. Alison found out that Karl’s contractor license is expired, so they staked out his house and believe they spotted him. Alison spotted him and set up an appointment for the next morning.
At the sting house, the entire operation was waiting for Karl’s arrival. The production crew had everything set up waiting for Karl. Adam stated that without a valid license, he could not take bids for jobs over $500.
When he arrived at the sting house, he lied and lied about everything. He said he did not do all the work that was wrong; that someone else did the work. They gave him the three options; return the money to the homeowners, come back and do the job correctly under their supervision or they will help the homeowners take him to court.
When he arrived he continued his lies. Skip and Adam found so many items that were incorrectly installed, even the screws he used to put the deck together were wrong. The French doors were put in by him and when Adam and Skip showed him all the errors he made, he just laughed. Finally, when the homeowners came out to confront him, he blamed them for the crappy job. Karl then admitted he has not done any other jobs since this job and he is now a professional stripper.
Adam had a great time cracking jokes at Karl’s expense, but when the couple showed up, he came clean and told them that he probably should not have taken the job in the first place. The job was beautifully done, and because Skip is an honest contractor; he would not let Karl take any shortcuts. Now that Karl knows the proper way to do a job and how difficult it can be; he better stick to stripping.
Thanks to Adam, Skip and Alison there is one more happy couple because of their hard work on “Catch a Contractor.”
