The traditional Christmas colors may be red and green, but with the recent opening of an American Girl store at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, N.C., the city is seeing lots of pink and green this year for the 2014 holiday. The color green is flowing at North Carolina’s premiere shopping destination in the form of revenue as parents and little girls make holiday purchases and wish lists this year.
“We are delighted to welcome American Girl to SouthPark,” said Nicole Kennon, director of marketing and business development for SouthPark. “We always strive to continuously evolve as a shopping destination and American Girl further enhances our property’s growing list of retailers. Shoppers in the Charlotte area and beyond can now experience a fun and exciting time at American Girl.”
This is the first American Girl store in the Carolinas, and it is quickly becoming a top tourist attraction for the Queen City. With a doll salon, and a full-service bistro on-site, visiting the American Girl store can be an all-day experience.
Charlotte’s new store, which opened in mid-October, is the 17th national store for the American Girl Company, based in Wisconsin.
“Given our success in experiential retail over the past 16 years, we are excited to expand our stores to a top market, such as Charlotte, and a premier retail destination like SouthPark Mall. SouthPark’s upscale mix of retail and restaurants is a great fit for our brand and provides us with an amazing opportunity to debut our retail concept to American Girl fans in the Charlotte area,” remarked American Girl spokesperson, Susan Jevens. “Opening a store in the Charlotte area also allows us to reach more customers and further expand our geographic reach.”
Several Charlotte hotels are boosting tourism by welcoming American Girl fans to its hotels in a very colorful, bright and pink way. The Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark, as well as its sister property, Charlotte Marriott Southpark, officially partnered with American Girl to offer hotel packages that include a special separate check-in, pink hot chocolate on arrival, pink cookies and milk, complimentary breakfast for four, and an American Girl brand doll-bed for the tiniest guest.
Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark rooms operation manager, Jessica Brent, says that the basic American Girl package typically runs about $40 above the normal room rate, but then staff decided to have a little more fun with the color pink and offer the ultimate deluxe pink experience. “We had so much fun getting the pink experience together. We love seeing our guest’s reaction.” remarked Brent.
The deluxe pink experience is about $75 over the room rate, averaging about $200 this holiday season, per night. This package includes everything the basic package includes, but takes it up a notch in the room with pink bath towels, pink sheets, a pink blanket, a pink child-sized robe, a pink clock, a pink trashcan, a pink beanbag, and an American girl robe and slippers for the doll.
“There’s a lot of pink,” laughed Brent. “And it’s great. Our guests love it.”
Raleigh, N.C. resident, Liza Hines, experienced her 5th birthday this month at the hotel with her new doll, Isabelle. She stated, “There’s so much pink! It’s the best room ever!”
“We love the excitement this package is bringing to Charlotte, and if our younger guests come back to the hotel with a new doll after a day of shopping, we want to know all about their new friend.” said Brent. Renaissance Navigators, as they are called, add a little bit of pink to their wardrobe on the weekends when they have guests experiencing Charlotte’s American Girl experience.
The American Girl package is offered at the Marriott properties, adjacent to SouthPark Mall, on weekends only. For a complete list of Charlotte hotels partnering with the American Girl store, visit the American Girl website, and CharlottesGotALot to plan your pink shopping experience.
