I hear Charm City Devils spun so much on our local active rock station , 95.1 WIIL Rock – that I actually assumed , this five man, rock slamming band , was from the Mid West. Doing research via the ReverbNation platform , I was shocked to learn Charm City Devils, is actually based out of Baltimore, Maryland.
Charm City Devils are one of four bands chosen out of 2041 submissions to the Milwaukee Rock Music Examiner via ReverbNation opportunity.
I came here to review an album, Battles, the third rock & roll epic release by Charm City Devils. I am now here reviewing a band. I first was beyond impressed with the fact that CCD , has it’s original line -up of members. When Charm City Devils, state in their bio, they are a band of brothers, I have no doubt on that matter. Another fascinating discovery , while delving into the maze of Charm City Devils’ several social networks and accounted reviews , is never judge a book, a band, or a song by it’s cover. Karma is the popular radio single off of the 11 track release , Battles, The End Records, the track that most shocked me was, Shots.
Although I am the Milwaukee Rock Music Examiner, I also am the director of Stop Heroin Burlington, WI. Drug/alcohol addiction is an epidemic tearing family and friends apart. For Charm City Devils to write and publish a song with such an intense subject matter, as drug addiction, is highly commendable in an industry with a history of glamorization . Shots was written , as a plea to a friend , to do away with a dangerous lifestyle , that could take his life.
I can not commend CCD enough for the release of such a song. Brave and admirable. (see video here)
Battles was written during the loss of two of the leads, parents, which again showed strength and endurance of this five man coalition , touring , recording, and never stopping at any expense. A true hero story. All 11 tracks must be enjoyed over and over again. Battles – a must buy
from the band -Singer John Allen, a Baltimore native, admits that he is fueled by the idea of winning battles both big and small. “There are many battles you face in life,” he said. “The battle to survive, to get out of your own way, to do the right thing, of good against evil.” His favorite battle? Converting a musical sceptic, when the stage is effectively the battlefield. “I love it when someone comes up to us after a show and says, ‘I thought you were going to suck, but you guys are awesome!’ It’s like, ‘Go ahead. Underestimate me. Discount me. Count me out!,'” he said about the attitude which motivates him to succeed. “I love to prove people wrong and turn them around and win them over, and that’s what we do, night after night. Plus, meeting the fans, and introducing that human element, makes it all worth it!”
