If there were an Olympic event for cherry picking, Christians would probably get the gold. They find all the good things in the Bible, but do not see any of the bad. It is sort of like stating that Ted Bundy was nice, well dressed, mannerly, and a man that many mothers wished their daughters would meet and certainly husband material.
But oh yeah – Ted Bundy did have a little problem – he liked to kill young women. It is for that reason that he was put to death in Florida January 24, 1989 for killing 30-plus young girls, and perhaps many more. He confessed to 30 killings.
Christians are like Bundy believers. They like to wallow in God’s love, to state that Jesus provided the way to heaven, and that Christianity expresses God’s love to mankind. But there are some other arguments against that wrong childish belief and philosophy.
Since Biblical days, you only have to look at the Crusades against the Muslims, the Inquisition against heretics and the burning of witches, the hangings in Salem MA for heresy.
Estimates are that in Europe somewhere between 40,000 to 50,000 innocent people – mostly women labeled as witches – were burned alive. After it was that stalwart of Protestantism Martin Luther who said “Witches are the whores of the devil. That is why they must all be killed.”
Then you can wander through the Bible to find out that Abraham, that bastion of Judaism, Christianity and Islam came just short of slicing up his son Isaac and would have without the very last minute reprieve from an angel of the Lord.
Or look at the fact that after Sinai and the big Ten, Moses had 3,000 Israelites killed for their not wanting to buy into his big Ten deal with God. Or look at the passage out of Egypt after God killed all the first born Egyptians – perhaps a few million innocents.
Then we have 70,000 Israelites killed because David did not conduct a census properly. Or how about God’s instructions to Moses for him and his people to rape all the innocent virgin Midianite women, or God giving a pass to David for his contract murder of his soldier Uriah and adultery with Uriah’s wife Bathsheba.
It goes on and on. There is the killing of all mankind with the Noah’s Ark story. With Jesus, you have him stating that you must hate your parents and siblings to follow him and love him. Jesus also lies, stating in Matthew, Mark and Luke that the second coming of Christ will occur within perhaps 50 years.
There are little things, such as requiring that the Israelite gathering sticks for a meal on the Sabbath is stoned to death, yet not a word said about David’s wrongs or the marching of Joshua’s Israelites around Jericho on the Sabbath. Or you have a pass for Abraham to marry his sister and for virtuous Lot of Sodom and Gomorrah fame to pimp out his virgin daughters.
Why in the name of somebody don’t the Christian lay people, the Christian ministers, the Catholic priests, etc, see this insanity, these huge errors of the Bible and of God?
What is wrong with Christians that they can’t see or choose to ignore the evils of their God, their religion, their beliefs? When will these people filled with such willful ignorance wake up?
