Children playing at a beach in Sydney, Australia found the body of a baby. The children accidentally dug up the baby’s decomposing body while playing in the sand. According to a Sunday, Nov. 30 report by Yahoo! News, there is little information available about the baby the children found.
Australian investigators do not know how long the baby had been buried in the sand at the Sydney beach. Due to the level of decomposition, they have yet to have a timetable as to when the baby had been buried. They are currently looking over records of missing children as well as birth records from hospitals.
The investigators also do not know the age or sex of the baby that was buried in the sand. All that is known is that a “very small infant” was buried on the beach in Sydney. The buried baby was only about 11.8 inches long.
The two children, both boys, who found the baby were only six and seven years old. The young boys immediately told their father about the buried baby. Their father quickly called the police.
This is the second baby found in Sydney in the past week. The first baby was found alive in a roadside drain. Cyclists found the crying baby. That baby’s mother is in custody. She is currently charged with attempted murder. The mother’s next court date is on Dec. 12.
An autopsy is planned. At the time of publication, the cause of death was unknown. Authorities hope to learn from the autopsy what happened to the baby. Until the autopsy is completed, many questions about the baby buried on the Sydney beach will remain unanswered.
