Marvel has embarked on a marketing blitz leading up to the May 1st release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and the latest promotions to hit the web are a teaser trailer and a character poster for Chris Evans’ Captain America. The thirteen second teaser video, which features a quick glimpse of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow character embracing Mark Ruffalo’s The Hulk, reveals the world broadcast trailer will debut during ABC’s series premiere of “American Crime” on Thursday. Evans is the latest actor in the franchise to receive a character poster, which is believed to interlock into one large poster similar to last summer’s concept art.
Character posters of Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Thor and now Captain America all show sentient robots soaring towards the superheroes. Prior to signing on for the “Avengers” sequel, Evans spoke with director Joss Whedon about the development of his character. “The only thing I kind of talked to [Whedon] about was his consistency,” he told CinemaBlend. “You know, with [‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’] we really pushed the envelope in terms of what this guy is capable of, which I was excited to see because [in] the first ‘Captain America’ he’s just strong. In ‘Avengers’ it was still in my opinion a little bit punch, punch, kick, kick.”
The actor set a standard for the American hero saying, “His fight style needs to advance a little bit. I don’t wanna go full Bruce Lee, but there needs to be more than just haymakers and fun kicks. There needs to be a style of fight. There needs to be a consistent display of strength.”
Evans admits The First Avenger’s fighting skills still have some improving to do in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” “The foes are a bit more of a challenge,” Evans says, “so in a way he’s not as effective as I’d like him to be. You know, you have to measure your enemy’s ability based on his capacity to win, and sometimes Cap has to take that one to the chin, be the one who gets thrown around a little bit – because these Ultrons are pretty powerful.” The actor’s revelation hints Captain America has a massive beating coming his way at the hand of Ultron, which might explain why we see his shield, made of vibranium – the rarest metal on earth, cracked in half in the trailer.
Marvel fans will likely see Cap become more effective in his style of fight when he takes on Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man in “Captain America: Civil War” on May 6th, 2016. In the meantime, we can look forward to seeing some epic throw downs in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” which graces theaters on May 1st. The “Avengers” sequel stars Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (The Vision) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury).
