A 29-year-old mother took a sharp kitchen knife and slit the throats of her two-year-old toddler and six-month-old twins because they wouldn’t be quiet. This is what Christina Booth told investigators during their interrogation of this woman who is now being held on a $3 million bond in Olympia, Washington, according to MSN News on Jan. 28.
Christina said several times during this interview that “they will be quiet now,” as investigators tried to piece together just what went wrong to have this mother do the unthinkable to her three babies. The police did hear from this distraught woman that she felt compelled to keep her children quiet while her soldier husband was at home.
According to WPTV.com, Christina has been charged with attempted murder for slitting the throats of all three of her children on Saturday night. When officers arrived at the house they described the disturbing scene of seeing the twin babies on the couch bleeding from their necks and crying uncontrollably.
Police officers found the toddler upstairs in bed under covers with dry blood all over her. The three were rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery. They are now in stable condition and will be placed in protective custody.
Thomas Booth was home at the time that his wife slit the throats of their three children. He said that he found the twin babies bleeding in their cribs when he went to check on them. He said his wife had gone upstairs to put their toddler to bed and when she came back she was in her underwear crying and screaming.
This prompted Thomas to go check on the children and once discovering the twins bleeding from their throats he yelled at his wife to call 911. The 911 operator said the crying woman said that her children would not stop crying and she thought they needed medical attention.
The operator said then a man grabbed the phone and told the 911 operator that the kids were bleeding from the neck and they needed an ambulance. The man who got on the phone is believed to have been the husband. Thomas is stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord with the 1st Special Forces Group.
Christina told police that her husband was no help and that he got upset when the kids made noise. She tried to keep them quiet when her husband was home. She told police that when she went to put her toddler to bed that night, all the kids started crying. She felt that by cutting their throats, this would keep them quiet.
During the investigation the police talked with the neighbors to get a better picture of the family. The people who lived nearby the couple said that Christina had a “bubbly personality” but she never had a break from the kids.
Thomas told the police that his wife has been on medication for post postpartum depression and under a lot of stress lately. The couple had watched a movie and had a couple of “large glasses” of wine prior to this horrific event. The husband said that he was feeling a bit intoxicated and his wife was slurring her words, so she too was intoxicated.
After the movie ended she went upstairs to put their toddler to bed and came downstairs screaming and crying. Thomas said this is when he went upstairs to check on the children, checking on the twins first. This is when he found them bleeding.
The prosecutor said this is where the husband and wife’s stories differ. While Thomas said he discovered the kids upstairs, Christina said she carried the twins downstairs, put them on the couch and then slit their throats.
The husband said that he found them upstairs, but carried them downstairs to give them first aid. Police do not believe that Thomas had any part in the violence against the children. This investigation is on-going as police try to get a better understanding of just what happened to have this young mother try and kill her children.
