“How a moment of infatuation could disrupt a chance for love and sincere commitment – or was it just pity?” Good question for those attending “Butterflies Are Free” at the Alhambra Theater & Dining from now until March, 22, 2015 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Go to the theatre often? Do you like hearing a play that consists mostly of dialogue verses a musical? Well, you need to get your tickets today for the fun-filled, meaningful, comedy, “Butterflies Are Free”.
The apple hasn’t fallen far from the entertainment tree with the double family duo of Lisa Whelchel (Mrs. Baker) and her surprisingly talented daughter, Clancy Cauble (Jill Tanner). At first Cauble portrays a ‘bit of an airhead’, ditzy young love interest to a blind ‘Tom Cruise’ look-a-like, guitarist who is trying to live on his own next door to the flirty Clancy Caubel. The blind man (Don Baker) is played by actor TJ Washburn who masters the part of the unsighted character.
He has a small part in Butterflies are Free, yet it is a much-needed part in this play because there has to be an antagonist in all stories. You may remember Xander Chauncey (Ralph Austin) from two other Alhambra shows: Phantom and Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. This man can really act and his character could be someone you’d like to hate.
“Butterflies are Free” is a two act humorous, fun-filled journey into the lives of four people who could actually be people whom you may know or may have run into in the course of your lifetime.
We loved Lisa in the “Facts of Life” and you’ll love her just as much, once again, in this four-person play. By the way, Lisa looks phenomenal!
