This time of year, things can get a little crazy what with special dinners to plan, shopping for gifts and running around to attend the various holiday shows. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo invites you to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the stores and to enjoy a little Christmas cheer in a less intense environment.
The Cleveland Metroparks Wolf Wilderness Lodge will have a special visitor during Saturdays and Sundays in December as Santa Clause stops by for a visit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21. Parents are invited to relax and warm up by the fireplace in the lodge as the children have their visit with Santa. Souvenir photos will be available for $5 with proceeds going to the American Association of Zoo Keepers.
In the later part of December the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo hosts December Days as a way to keep the children busy during winter break. December Days is held on December 26 through 30 and are free with regular Zoo admission. Activities include crafts and cookie decorating from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Zoo’s Exhibit Hall, live music in the RainForest Café from noon to 2 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. in the Wolf Wilderness Lodge as well as Meet the Keeper sessions in the RainForest from 1 p.m. and Northern Trek at 2 p.m.
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo prides itself in being a year round family destination. In the winter months the pace slows down a bit to a more relaxing change. After checking out the various December Days activities, guests can check out the various cold weather loving animals of Northern Trek such as the bears, tigers and reindeer. A warm ride in the Zoo’s complimentary heated shuttle will deliver you to the Primate, Cat and Aquatics Building to look at the gorillas, lemurs, snow leopards and more. The elephants can be found in the state-of-the-art Elephant Care & Visitor Center which is also the home of the naked mole rats and an African rock python. The koalas are resting comfortably in GumLeaf Hideout and of course the RainForest is a balmy 80º year round.
