Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente turned a 0-2 deficit around to take the game 3-2 against CF Pachuca at the Caliente Stadium in Friday action of the Clausura 2015 of La Liga MX. The dogs began week 8 as league leaders, and there they will remain regardless of what any teams do the rest of the weekend.
Pachuca began the game applying pressure on the league leaders keeping the ball on the Tijuana side of the field. The visitors were fast and easily took the ball to set up corner kicks. It took 11 minutes for Pachuca to put the ball in the net. On their third corner kick Diego DeBuen moved past the defense and collided with the ball to push it into the net for the 1-0.
Xolos had a good opportunity in the 18th minute when Colombian Dayro Moreno fired from outside the area. The ball touched a defender changing its trajectory. However, Oscar “Conejo” Perez was there to tap the ball out for a corner.
Xolos slowly began to take control of the field with Pachuca sitting back waiting for a counterstrike opportunity. In the 31st Argentine Gabriel Hauche stole the ball in the area and passed to Brazilian Ricardo Jesus DaSilva who was close to the net with the keeper off his line. DaSilva tried to volley the ball into the net, but missed by inches.
Tuzos doubled their lead with a demonstration of precision and skill when Xolos were at their best. After a set of cross passes that made the Xolos defense lose their footing, Rodolfo Pizarro found an opening to put the ball in the back of Cirilo Saucedo’s net for the 2-0 advantage. The game went to break with the Aztec dogs down on the scoreboard.
The game continued with the same intensity in the second half, hard play and fouls. The rojinegros let go of a good opportunity in the 51st when Moreno received a cross pass in front of Perez and shot it over the crossbar.
In the 56th Venezuelan Juan Arango converted on a set-piece inches outside the penalty area. Arango fired over the wall with no movement from Perez. Xolos inched closer. Things went south for the Pachuca defense a few minutes later when Aquivaldo Mosquera was sent off for handling the ball on a counterstrike. The Colombian had a yellow card from the first half and a double booking sent him to the showers.
The numerical superiority showed itself in the 82nd minute when Xolos put together a combination in the area that allowed Arango to hammer the ball into the net to close the gap 2-2. The home side had taken over the pitch and were knocking on Perez’ doorstep.
The winning goal came in the 90th minute on a counterstrike after a corner kick. Dayro Moreno received a pass on first touch and without marker took a few steps to beat a sliding Perez to bury the ball in the back of the net for the 3-2.
Tijuana continues on a good pace reaching 19 points in eight games. The dogs travel to Torreon, Mexico to take on Club Santos Laguna in week 9. Before that, Xolos will play against Leones Negros in Copa MX to seal their pass into the quarterfinals.
