The SEC almost makes up a third of the teams in the updated college football playoff poll that was released on Tuesday. However, they only make up a quarter of the teams in top four playoff rankings. With multiple big games coming down the stretch, there are sure to be plenty of changes in the near future.
After Tuesday’s release of the college football playoff rankings, there have been plenty of questions from around the country. Nobody ever expected an undefeated Florida State team to get passed by a one-loss team, but the committee saw fit to rank Oregon at No.2 over the No.3 Seminoles.
That wasn’t the only surprise by the committee on Tuesday night. Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports highlights the bizarre episode of this week’s college football playoff. The TCU Horned Frogs jumped over Alabama to move into the top four. Many people are wondering why Baylor is not ahead of TCU due to the head to head victory over TCU. It’s evident that the playoff picture has to get messy before it clears up.

Although Alabama is not in the top four, the rest of the SEC is doing fairly well in the college football playoff selection committee’s eyes. The SEC has four teams in the top 10, including No.9 Auburn and No.10 Ole Miss. Even the Georgia Bulldogs skyrocketed up the rankings on Tuesday night. Georgia moved to No.15, while LSU dropped to No.17, and No.24 Texas A&M made the rankings for the first time.
Despite not playing during a bye week, the Nebraska Cornhuskers dropped three spots to No.16. According to Dr. Saturday of Yahoo Sports, the Cornhuskers’ Vincent Valentine was not pleased with the lack of respect. Nebraska has a date with the No.20 Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, so they have a chance to possibly impress the selection committee. With only two one-loss teams left in the Big 10, 247sports.com wonders if a Big 10 team will make the college football playoffs?
Every college football Top 25 spot is filled by a major conference team and Notre Dame. That means the undefeated Marshall Thundering Herd and and the one-loss Colorado State Rams aren’t getting any respect from committee members.
