Economic development, global health and wellness, education and empowerment; The Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation is the root structure of some extraordinary philanthropy. Unfortunately, it’s only about 15% of what they do. According to multiple, public sources, which are not suffering the kind of backlash you would expect considering the target of their scrutiny, only a scant minority of the money raised by this international charity go toward charitable causes.
In about a decade of operation, some tens of millions of dollars have gone to fund travel related expenses. The important work of the Clinton Foundation takes representatives all over the world. The Clinton family, especially, requires significant security and logistical expenditures, though the published figures dwarf the Pope and Dalai Lama’s related budgets combined. According to recent findings by The Federalist, 80 percent of money raised since 2008 has gone for employee salaries and, $290 million of which, is classified only as “other expenses.”
The Clintons draw there share of scrutiny. It has intensified since Hillary declared her intention to seek the Democratic nomination to run for President in 2016. They are no strangers to controversy, though most of what doesn’t get instantly brushed under the rug gets shouted down before escaping the confines of conservative media. The latest Clinton Foundation calamity has legs, and unexpected outlets including Reuters and The New York Times are running with it. Making matters more surprising, and thus genuine, likely, is how the story continues to grow despite the targeting an entity fighting global poverty, hunger, oppression and disease.
It is exceedingly easy discredit unfounded attacks against a charity. Especially a charity run by one of the top two prominent Democratic-party families in the 21st Century. If the Clinton Foundation was completely clean this story would have died on Rush Limbaugh’s desk. But, even the usual liberal water-carrying suspects are having trouble rationalizing Hillary Clinton’s newly revealed role in possibly facilitating Russian acquisition of American uranium production.
There’s something there, and it’s far worse than all the something that was already there that we’ve been convinced and cajoled to ignore. That the major parties who historically rush to the Clinton’s defense have not done so, and are in this instance part of the pitch-fork wielding mob, what has occurred may well be indefensible. It’s the kind of thing that could cost an aspiring politician their candidacy.
