A Central Islip man was arrested Friday on drunken driving charges after a three-car crash killed another motorist in Commack, Suffolk County police said.
Louis Muicela, 38, is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday on driving while intoxicated charges after the fatal crash that occurred at 4:15 a.m. on Jericho Turnpike in Commack.
Police said 42-year-old Karl Njerve, of Port Jefferson Station, was behind the wheel of a 2011 Lincoln Town Car and driving west on Jericho Turnpike when his car was struck by Muicela’s Jeep, who was heading north on Commack Road. Muciela then allegedly collided with a 2006 Nissan that was stopped at a red light.
Authorities said Njerve died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, Carmen Lee Choy, of East Northport, was not hurt.
Police said Muicela was treated for minor injuries at Huntington Hospital. He is being held overnight in police custody and is expected to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
All three cars involved in the crash were impounded by police as the investigation continues. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Vehicular Crime Unit detectives at 631-852-6555.
