There may not ever be conclusive proof of these drugging and rape allegations against entertainer Bill Cosby. I’ve lost count on how may women have come forward with these charges, but their stories are similar in the sense that the use of drink, drugs, followed by an alleged rape always seem to occur. They would either black out or just have to fight Cosby off as he forced himself on them. These instances seemed to have begun as far back as 1969. He did pay off a few of these women, and now refuses to talk about any of these charges. Why, if he is innocent, would he not deny the charges? I happen to believe these women’s claims. Most seem to have been in show business or wanted to be, and therefore may have been hesitant about coming out against such a well known celebrity. Doing so may have meant being blacklisted.
None of this would bother me except the one thing I can’t stand in so many well known types, most of whom tend to be in politics, are the ones who go around lecturing others on how to live their lives. Cosby saw himself as a sort of celebrity as teacher and would lecture young blacks on how to act, and young black comedians (Richard Pryor/Chris Rock) that they shouldn’t rely on using “blue” (cuss words/the “N” word) material. I actually was never a big fan of Cosby, except for his ground breaking role in I Spy.
As a big fan of Johnny Carson, I always moaned (more so in the early days) when Bill Cosby would be substitute host on The Tonight Show. He would typically have a cigar in hand and seemed to (along with comic David Steinberg) see himself as heir-apparent to Groucho Marx. I just never found his Fat Albert bits very funny. His many TV shows (again-except for I Spy) just never did anything for me. It’s one thing to lecture people if your own life is pristine, but I feel these allegations were true and did begin decades ago-well before the “Cosby as teacher” phase of career began. I’m just not shocked by this whole situation, and find it, once again, typical of those who tell others how to act, and then it becomes apparent that the emperor has no clothes-again.
Remember the Nixon-Agnew law and order campaign of 1968? yes, America was a mess, but the two people who could hardly save America from itself were Nixon-Agnew. Agnew was busted while he was serving as Vice President, for taking money in exchange for political favors when he served as governor of Maryland. We know what finally happened to Nixon. Senator Joseph McCarthy lectured Democrats and Americans about those nasty “commies” infiltrating our government and the military, but could never prove anything. He did , manage to ruin many lives and careers in the process because so many “good” but clueless Americans could be so easily scared and manipulated. When he was finally shown for the phony he always was, he was first censored by Congress, and then, thankfully died of alcoholism, in disgrace.
William Bennett, a former ‘Secretary of Education” under President Reagan, wrote his book “The Book of Virtues-A Treasury of Great Moral Stories“. This came out before he was busted as a chronic gambler. Not that gambling is such a horrid moral disease, but again, this oaf isn’t some moral overseer so clear of moral irregularities that he should be lecturing anyone on how to live a “clean life”. I always find it so bizarre to see the complete idiots who would buy such crap-much less actually pay to hear this guy speak. As one of the great prophets of history, P.T. Barnum once said so eloquently, “there’s a sucker born every minute”.
Over the past few decades, we’ve unfortunately been invaded by another morass of hypocrite morons getting rich because they serve verbal vomit to the masses too ignorant to even know they’re being “played”. Rush Limbaugh is a perfect example of a guy who plays fast and loose with the facts, but that doesn’t stop him from being a grand phony. He spent years calling for “drug addicts” to be thrown in jail, yet when this fat buffoon was busted for illegally obtaining pain killers, he was no offender. Of course Limbaugh had an excuse to break the law. His minions gave him a pass because they’re idiots who don’t know any better. I hate to lower myself into name calling, except it’s such a sad state of affairs. A mind is a terrible thing to waste and in America, we do have a vast wasteland.
And so it goes. Who knows, maybe somehow I will be proven wrong about Bill Cosby. Maybe all these women will come clean about their mass lying, and reveal that they all just wanted to do Bill Cosby in for some reason yet to surface. I doubt this will happen because I believe the allegations to be true. There’s no reason why all these women would have similar stories about the same man. Why would Cosby have paid off anyone if he were not guilty? I would never do that, and rather spend money to fight all the , so-called lies. The lesson here is for people not to spend too much time, effort or energy putting so much faith in the typical celebrity be they in politics, movies, television or radio. It’s all show business and these people are all human with human flaws. Once they get the fame and ability to make money as a result of that fame, some just get carried away: some should be carried away. In the end, trust yourself, and access a wide variety of resources to find the real truth. No one person can realistically offer that within themselves, especially if its for sale.
