The night skies will come alive for those visitors who venture to the COSI Museum in Columbus, Ohio and explore the new state-of-the-art fully digital Planetarium (deemed the largest Planetarium in Ohio) which opened in November. Columbus is approximately a 2 hour drive from Cleveland.
COSI Planetarium Closed in 2004 due to financial concerns, COSI’s planetarium has now reopened and features a Digistar 5 digital projection system under a 60 foot dome illuminated with thousands of miniscule lights and new seats for 220 guests that actually rumble in addition to breathtaking special effects. Prepare yourself for some amazing sights as you explore the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Not only will you be able to see the view of the night sky from Earth but you can also get the view of the night sky from Mars. With the system’s new capabilities, you might even see spectacles like underwater volcanoes or take a glimpse inside the human body.
Current shows at the Planetarium include “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure” geared toward children 4-6 years of age, featuring “Sesame Street” characters Big Bird, Elmo and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu and an interactive seasonal tour of the sky featuring current science news entitled “Our Universe Above: Winter Sky.”
The Planetarium shows run approximately 40 minutes. Check for times of the presentations. Planetarium admission is $5 per person on top of regular COSI admission pricing.
