Nestled in Historic Five Points not far from majestic churches and the Cummer Art Gallery, the delicate décor of this culinary treasure is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the busy metropolis outdoors. The owner Shika grew up in Africa and has an Indian heritage. Her diverse staff follows her lead in giving each customer that walks through the front door hospitality with a genuine warmth and seemingly effortless confidence about the menu selections. At Cozy Tea, the menus include a vast range of specialty blend teas, soup, scrumptious desserts including cookies and chocolate truffles, an array of fresh baked scones, salad, and favorites from the Indian subcontinent. Hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. most days and Cozy Tea is closed on Sundays. There is no need for reservations although larger parties can call ahead to have their special occasions at Cozy Tea. The prices for all items from desserts to salads to teas are modestly priced.
Five Points’ finest afternoon tea
Customers of Cozy Tea may recall similar tea rooms in major hubs like London and New York. However, there is something refreshing about Cozy Tea here on in Northeast Florida given the preponderance of fast food and the many Far Eastern restaurants. Full and light afternoon tea are available after 2:30 p.m. These include some portion of tea, scones, whipped cream and jam, sandwiches, and fresh fruit garnish. Tea room rental for bridal showers and parties is available as well as catering and items to go. Tea is served traditionally by the pot, and there are so many flavors of tea to choose from: there is black, chocolate, herbal, fruit, and green, each wonderful in their own way. The Monk’s Blend is heavenly. Seven types of scones are offered at Cozy Tea that also serves this delectable lemon cookie with almonds and white chocolate warmed to perfection. On the lighter side, salads include a curried take on traditional chicken salad, green salad, egg salad, and shrimp salad. There are also four types of soup, Indian samosas and fragrant, spicy Indian chai. French-pressed coffee and bottled mineral water are also offered at Cozy Tea.
