Critical Bill’s free Thanksgiving bash has become an annual tradition for many and this year’s seventh edition was even bigger as the band expanded the show to three days at Pub 1281 in Clinton Township. All three nights were free and for all ages.
Held on Thursday November 27, Friday November 28 and Saturday November 29, the 7th Annual Thanksgiving Blowout found Critical Bill playing three different sets of songs over the three nights and sharing the stage with Kaleido on Thursday, Through Our Eyes and Dramakil on Friday and Cadre and One Block South on Saturday.
Kaleido kicked off the festivities at Thursday’s Thanksgiving show before a packed crowd of fans who, after a day of football and turkey dinners, were more than ready to let off a little energy. Although the small stage didn’t leave a lot of room for the band to move around, they still managed to bring a power-packed/hard rocking set that had the crowd jumping and yelling the lyrics back at vocalist Christina Chriss.
Kaleido shared a few new tracks that they have been working on including a reggae-ish thumper that appeared to be titled “Trouble In Paradise”. The band also pulled out their terrific cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “My Michelle” and closed with crowd favorite “Jane”.
Critical Bill took awhile to get on stage but once they did they kept the energy level rolling as they pulled out one hit after another including some tracks off of their current album The New Eternal including their new anthem “Who The F*ck Is Critical Bill?” and party track “Bet You’re Buying”. The band kept the crowd laughing as the set list they had prepared began to fall apart and they began throwing in whatever they wanted and listening to requests from those gathered at the front of the stage.
The band closed the evening with their cover of “Jump Around” as vocalist Powerdise entered the crowd and started a mosh pit with a group of fans who had been extremely vocal and active throughout the set.
